The definitive version of Ouroboros featuring exclusive vinyl mastering listening experience, cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering studios, this is definitely one of the best albums of 2016 and probably one of the best sounding new releases this year will present us! With production colaboration from Jim James, Ouroboros moves deeper into the psychedelic haze.

It definitely isn’t mono. The Amazon image is wrong.

Firstly, the labels state stereo. Secondly and more importantly, I own it.

My theory is that once these were prepared for the DeAgostini Dylan partwork series in Italy, they then replaced the earlier mono issues. Sony has form for using the latest mastering in their releases.

We may yet see a stereo Blonde on Blonde.

Not talking about the labels or Amazon description, just the customer reviews stating theirs are mono. I don't own it, so I've no idea

I think Amazon sometimes misleadingly groups products together when it's comes to reviews; for example I often see reviews of vinyl records talking about a CD (but the same album). So it's unfortunately hard to gauge actual product info from Amazon reviews.

What's a bit more surprising in this case is that users on the individual discogs entry being unsure (ie one user stating that it's mono and then changing their mind). I was thinking it might be that it's a very narrow stereo, where the right and left channels are quite close to the centre in the mix. This was the case with many of the DeAgostini jazz releases, so I wouldn't be surprised if so, if this one is from them

They are probably reviews of the earlier mono release that’s been around since 2015. Amazon makes no distinction.

It was I who changed my mind.

A casual and single listen initially made me think it was the usual mono. Then that other contributor invited me to listen more closely. I used headphones and was then convinced.

Sony issued a mono with stereo labels just a couple of years ago, so I thought this was more of the same - but was intrigued all the same by the updated deadwax.

This one ifs not from DeAgostini but may well be based on the plates that Sony supplied to them.

Ha, small world :) yeah that's kind of how it was for me with the DeAgostinis, out sounded mono initially, but after a few listens I noticed that it sounded slightly uneven in some places, and looked it up online and found that there were discussions about it where people weren't really sure.

But in the end some kind of very narrow stereo mix seems the most logical explanation (which is unusual in jazz, more common in some modern music, likes hip hop, I think)

Then again, when they narrowed the stereo on Dylan’s first LP a few years back, it produced reams of online discussion. There’s nothing about this one.

I think we’re just used to them releasing them in mono for the last 10 years coupled with the mistake they made a couple of years ago with a stereo label on a mono recording. Consider too how they released H 61R in France in 2015 only to have it play BIABH.

    Late Night Tales
    x2 LP
    Khruangbin

    £12

    https://amzn.to/3tlhp7Z

Hot on the heels of ‘Mordechai’, the critically acclaimed third album from US psych-rockers Khruangbin, the Texas trio are set to become the latest act to present their own LateNightTales in the popular, long-running musician-curated album series.

Having first come to prominence in 2013 when producer and D.J. Bonobo included Khruangbin’s ‘A Calf Born in Winter’ in his own collection of songs for the series, the little known Houston trio had yet to release an album, but have since gone on to become international superstars forming their own exotic, individual sound. 'The LateNightTales series is such a special thing to be a part of because we wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for Bonobo’s LateNightTales, because that’s how we got into the LNT family – and got a break.'

With a mind-blowing selection of tracks that cross borders and cultures, Khruangbin’s deep love of global grooves – from Asian pop to Nigerian reggae – Japanese mellow groove to Latina flavas – are steeped in eclecticism; Nazia Hassan’s Hindi-disco ‘Khushi’, produced by British-Indian legend Biddu, South Korean rock band Sanullim who contribute ‘Don’t Go’, a pair of African bangers from Nigerian Maxwell Udoh and Roha Band, from Ethiopia; a diversion to Belarus for Песняры and thence to Madrid for the strident vocal performance of Paloma San Basilio with ‘Contigo’ before hightailing back to Texas.
