Do you mean '20th Century Popular and Rock Music'? Because there's a whole world of other musics that you've left out.

It is obviously fine if you don't particularly like rock music, but the dominant musical style of the twentieth century was rock music... It brought music to the masses (along wiht changing technology) in a way previously unseen.
There was certainly a lot of music prior to Elvis and Chuck, but that isn't really the point.
Elvis Presley was the face of rock and roll. All the controversies, and all the interest, and particularly all the sales changed the whole face of the music industry... whether anyone likes it or not, is pretty irrelevant. The whole face of music changed, directly due to the explosion of Elvis.
Chuck Berry gave rock music its musical signature, with the guitar coming out from behind the singer and playing a role that was just as important.

Without these two guys and the impact that they had, the face of twentieth century music is completely different.... and sure some may wish that had been the case, but it wasn't, so therefor they would be much more serious contenders for some list of the most influential artists of the twentieth century

Expanding mine to a much more representative 19:

    Arnold Schoenberg
    Igor Stravinsky
    George & Ira Gershwin
    Irving Berlin
    Robert Johnson
    Duke Ellington
    Elvis Presley
    The Beatles
    Bob Dylan
    Bob Marley
    Sergei Prokofiev
    Fritz Reiner
    Glenn Miller
    Frank Sinatra
    Billie Holiday
    Memphis Minnie
    Berry Gordy
    Miles Davis
    Dorothy Fields

Please note my list refers to Western Music and primarily English language based. The rest of the world requires their own lists although I lack to knowledge of the subject matter to do so.

You really don't like classical music? You can't deny the power of Prokofiev.

Well I guess you can make a case for Chuck Berry's influence, but Elvis? I'm not convinced he influenced too many others musically...
