No idea but your comment reminded me of a Jethro Tull outtake called "Tomorrow Was Today" (from the WarChild era):

Well, me: I'll just sit tight and write my epitaph
But, then again, I may get laid by the laundromat
When the night-light has been lit
    I'll squeeze some lady's t… knee

I'll probably never figure out what song I was thinking of but the aforementioned Shaving Cream is a good example, though I think what I was trying to remember was something from the 70s onward, and I did in fact wonder if it was either a Tull song or something from one of the Canterbury scene bands.

I actually prefer the much sanitised single version of Not Now John by the ever amusing Roger Waters and chums. Replaced "**** all that" with "stuff all that".

Speaking of which, when Edie Brickell and New Bohemians covered Take a Walk on the Wild Side it was white girls and “it” rather than “ head”.

Didn’t Lonnie Donnegan replace “bloody” with “bloomin’” on his version of The Battle of New Orleans.

David, Roger and the backing vocalists recorded that bit of the vocal right over the already existing track, so it sounds more like "stuck" now. :unhunh:

Also interesting is the different intro without the transition from the previous track - you can hear Andy Bown's organ swelling (oooh, er matron :nyah:)
On the other hand it fades out before Roger's timeless line "OI!!! WHERE'S THE F*KKING BAR JOHN!!!" Gee, I wonder why.

"Doggone" has been quoted a few times in this thread, but does it qualify? If it's "softened swearing", then what word is it intended to replace? I always thought of "doggone" as just an expression in its own right.

"Why don't you all f... f... fade away?"

I don't think I have to tell you where that line comes from, do I?

In retrospect it's astonishing that Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady was allowed to yell out "Move your bloomin' arse!" at the racetrack without the word being censored.

Of course later on in the movie her suitor is singing about the incident, and begins to quote her, but is cut off just before the final word, and the fact that we heard the word before makes this even more effective.
