Thats good quality control, look at the dealer and see what state hes in,that will be you in a few hours. Happy Mondays playing Heaton Park in Manchester,I lived 6 doors away from Paul Ryder so its free tickets, mid day I saw my mate morph into an extra from Planet of the Apes and to this day the flashback is still there.
I was at that Dylan show and totally agree- Anytime I have seen Bob Dylan at the Beacon the sound is always a mess. Not sure why, but I'm convinced it's Dylan. Yeah he is old, but the lyrics on his latest album are sung quite clear. I don't know- He doesn't even play guitar anymore. I have seen Dylan about 15-20 times since the mid 80's tour with Tom Petty. I might be done.
* Iggy Pop Blah Blah Blah Tour, Starry Night, Portland, Or. 2/19/83 - Real loud. Dozens of cops at the entrance threatening even more pain if they didn't turn it down. I couldn't work the next day as a dispatcher for a bike messenger service. * Big Freedia @ the Slay Ball, 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pa. 7/29/16 - Former pro wrestling venue, where multiple (10? 12?) floor level PA columns were placed throughout the club. When the show finally started at almost 2 am, people were running to the walls behind the PA's for relief. People trapped at the front of the stage were crying and some had to escorted outside. I'm convinced that almost 5 yrs later, any damage caused that night to my ears is permanent. * Amyl & the Sniffers, Boot & Saddle, Philadelhia, Pa. 7/17/19 - Always LOUD at the Boot & Saddle, but this show hurt me. I came with my wife, but even before the 1st song was finished, she was gone, leaving me with a text to take the train home without her.
I (kinda) wish I'd been there! I should have made it clear I was amplifying your post with another Who related one. I remember reading about it in the Guinness Book of World Records and being impressed.
Without a doubt oddly enough was Elton John way back in 1974. My ears were ringing the following morning like never before or after. I was taking aspirin 10 at a time trying to relieve the pain. And I have been to a lot of shows, but I will never forget how I felt after that one.
I saw Slayer in 1994 in a tiny underground venue, low ceiling, all concrete--basically, a bomb shelter. I could not hear for days afterward. People kept asking why I was shouting.
I've had that happen with shows that usually played bigger venues but found themselves in smaller places. When the Stones moved from stadiums to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall, apparently they forgot to turn down the volume. Same when Prince went from arenas to the 2000-seat Warner Theater in DC. Both shows were way louder than they would've been in their natural venues!
that was in the upstairs room. if so i was there. I have to set the mic input record level to zero when i record that band
That was the one. Did you see the Gnod R&D downstairs in the Lion as part of Tor Fest? Sophie who runs Tor Fest told me a few weeks earlier she was going to join them on trombone,I suggested she hooked up a few effects pedals which she did,a glorious noise,I couldn't believe a trombone could do that. In hindsight Gnod shares the EQUAL prize of the loudest band to grace the Lion.Scalping played one Halloween a couple of years ago, that was punishing.
That one is easy for me to remember. Savoy brown and Uriah Heep at the Hollywood Palladium in 1972. I still have hearing damage from that one. It was painful! The music was awesome though!
Missing Persons. It may have been the venue---Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium---my ears rang for days.
Alice Cooper Emerald queen casino 05......also saw this band my dawg wanted me to go see in a club a few years ago called "Earthless", but they sucked and was hardly music so that completely doesn't count
Aerosmith 1984 Back In The Saddle Tour at Pine Knob Music Theater. The opening notes of the show for the song Back In The Saddle Made the hair on my legs stand up it was so Loud. A few people near us were putting cigarette butts In their ears as ear plugs. I Was a bit toasted as a young lad corrupted By my older brothers so I was not to affected until the next day when my head was about ready to explode. I am surprised I still have Exceptional hearing despite all the abuse of Concerts without ear protection.
Metallica, Thompson-Boling Arena, Knoxville, TN, USA Mar. 7, 1992 Every time Lars hit his bass drum it felt like someone was punching you in the sternum.
I downloaded one of those decibel meters for your phone that I would occasionally check at club shows for amusement. I went to see Japanese band Boris in 2019, and this app said it was at 130db at about two feet from the stage. No idea if this app is accurate, but I could feel my clothes moving due to the sound, so it was still extremely loud. I was shaking my head at the people standing there by me without any kind of earplugs.
