I wasn’t going to buy anything, but I found a fantastic Cary Cinema 12 and now I need a 5 channel amp. I’m going to use the pass through on my McIntosh for the front
This kind of thing tends to happen in this crazy game. Until recently, my only planned purchase was a DAC/Headphone Amp for my bedside table. Next thing I know I've changed the core of my system from an integrated amp (with which I was more than happy) to a Pre/Power set-up and now on the hunt for a phono pre! I still don't know quite what happened
I've reached my quota for 2021. Saved up for a while, and bought my "dream" speakers and phono amp. Legacy Signature SE speakers and Zestos Andros Deluxe II phono amp, with Tungsram NOS tubes luckily bought separately. Sounds beautiful. Gorgeous, sweet analog. I suppose I'm done now? : )
Well my first 2021 purchase can be checked off the list. This past weekend I picked up a Line Magnetic LM-218ia SET amp. Absolutely glorious! Now for the DAC and streamer... -Chris
Elac Debut B5 loudspeakers, "B"-stock from Elac America. Couldn't say no at $172/pr. Andrew Jones is a genius, and a gift to "working class" audiophiles.
the D-03 X is a current model and retails for $3600 but does not have SACD capability. The D-10X is newly available and retails for $16,500. There is buzz about Luxman releasing D-05X, 6X and 8X models. Luxman D-10X Digital Player
i'm thinking of getting a second set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's and running them together with my current set....the combined wattage will be 400...with 2 subwoofers and 4 satellites. I might blow up the house! But for a combined total of less than $200, it will be amazing.
I need to get some decent headphones. My crappy cell phone earbuds work well while jogging or riding a bicycle, but are not so great at home.
last night listening seriously to the D-05 CD player and then just relaxing to some jazz, freddy hubbard, hub tones and this thing is a keeper. the smoothest yet most detailed and transparent digital source i have owned. a cliche to say it sounds like vinyl but that is what struck me as i was listening, just a smooth, transparent flow of music with no distractions or barely detectable edges. the target was hit dead center bulls eye for a cd player upgrade. the Luxman D-05, 06, 05u and 06u are widely available in Japan as used pieces where CD still reigns. you just need a power down converter to 100 V. enthusiastically recommended.
I assume you don't get utterly slammed when bringing in goods from Japan like we do? In any case, colour me envious!
thankfully no. i have been to japan a few times on business and they are a genuinly nice, honest society. my friend left his phone on a commuter train and it was at the ticket station the next morning! i completely trust the buying experience.
Sure. When I said "slammed" I meant in terms of taxes and import duty. I bought my turntable from Japan and it was incredibly well packaged but the shipping cost, import taxes etc effectively doubled the price of it.
Is this your first experience with SACD? It was when I bought mine. I was overjoyed with how a good SACD/CD player can make CDs sound and overwrought with the sound of SACD. Vinyl is still my preferred medium but the new player opened up new opportunities to acquire physical titles that may be out of print in another preferred format. Good transport and solid DAC make all the difference.
