I agree. Beautiful Romantic piano music. Overshadowed by Chopin and Liszt, but deserves much more recognition.
Now playing: William Schuman - Violin Concerto; New England Triptych; Variations on 'America' - Philip Quint, Bournemouth SO, José Serebrier - rec. 2000
I have a few of these Philips Solo's and sonically, they all sound great, almost SACD quality I would say ...
Google Translate While Françoise Lengellé is not exactly a household name among the baroque music lovers, she actually studied with Kenneth Gilbert , Ton Koopman and Gustav Leonhardt, some of the top harpsichordists of our time. I am glad I discovered this recording and this very fine harpsichordist ...
In Memoriam of my Aunt Ruth: Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis Sinfonia of London Barbirolli My aunt passed away earlier today and, although I didn’t know her as well as I should have, I have heard many stories about her through the years. She had a difficult life --- one filled with tribulation and hardship, but she was always a gracious human being. All I know is the suffering is no more, she is at peace.
Although we've been in our new house for 10 days, we're still clearing out our old house. From boxes of CD-Rs I played today this 2000 set, which I enjoyed.
Issued by Philips in 1982 & again on this MHS CD in 1988. I went to two sales last month & got this and other classical CDs & LPs, all for 50 cents each.
CD7 of this set: WA Mozart - Piano Concertos No 22 & 23 - Gardiner/English Baroque Soloists, Malcolm Bilson (fortepiano) One disc left after this to complete my first traversal. I continue to be delighted by this set - it's criminal that it's out of print.
Listening to "In Morte di Madonna Laura" performed by the Huelgas Ensemble directed by Paul Van Nevel on Vivarte. Madrigal Cycle after Texts of Petrarch - Various Composers from Italy XVIth Century
Enjoyed the Boulez so much I played it twice realised how close he was to this guy, who I don't play often. I know he denied him then accepted him. I think I found him through his pupil and should play him more often.
Going to start listening to Langgaard’s symphonies and SQs again. NP: Langgaard Symphony No. 1, "Klippepastoraler" (Pastorals Of The Rocks) Danish NSO Dausgaard
Yes. Apex was Warner's super-budget reissue line prior to their purchase of bleeding chunks of EMI, which included Erato. I don't believe the Apex line is still being actively promoted, but many of the Apex titles still seem to be in print.
I think Erato was a separate purchase as it was not related to EMI though Warner has been stirring the pot by re-labeling the previous Virgin Classics releases as Erato, which to me is nonsense ... I think many of the recordings on Apex were previously released by TelDec.
