Just got The Doors and spinning it now, this thing is a revelation to hear in glorious mono. Honestly a top tier VMP release in my opinion. If you have even a passing interest in The Doors, I would highly recommend you get this.
It’s definitely a clean sounding pressing, but I don’t have any other version to compare it to. Anyone else compare this to the AP release or the previous mono release?
Light My Fire doesn’t sound great to me. My setup is pretty basic, but the sound quality is pretty muddy. Could just be the original recording quality though.
Does anyone from the UK subscribe? some interesting releases, and The Mars Volta is next month. has anyone got hit by customs? I’ve just checked and as long as it’s less than £39 it should be ok… be interested to hear thoughts from UK subscribers.
Been a subscriber since February and also ordered several records outside the ROTM selections. Not once been hit by a customs charge. I asked the same question on this thread before signing up so if you scan back to around Feb time you should see additional feedback.
Pretty much all Mono albums will sound muddy and muffled without the Mono set up. Yeah I’m listening in mono here and it sounds very good. I will say that you can hear what sounds like some tape degradation, with the cymbals breaking up a bit at times when Densmore hits them hard, but that doesn’t really bother me.
Well, I’m inspired to get a mono switch and see what kind of difference it makes. I’ll report back when I can.
Eh. You double the surface noise being sent to your speakers without a mono button or Y setup, but that's about it
I also was confused when I read that comment! I've been subscribed a fair while too and not once been hit, and I've ordered multiples. They tend to ship in multiple packages so you avoid customs. Anyone who ordered the Floating Points or Yusef Lateef had theirs shipped yet? I expected mine to come with the ROTM records.
I signed up for the classic sub. Everything I have had so far I have really enjoyed. Haven't got any of the hip-hop or country tracks so far. Got the following through VMP so far: Donny Hathaway- Everything is Everything Jorge Ben- Africa Brasil Charles Musselwaite- Tennessee Woman King Curtis- Live at the fillmore Darkside- Psychic Spiritualized- Ladies and Gentlemen Al Green- Call me Miles and Coltrane the last tour. I've enjoyed all the ones I have received and found the mastering to be really good to great. Only had 2 issues with records sent to me but they sent replacements ASAP.
I have been a member since Jan 2018, and have had over 50 or so records from them. Quite often il have two in the same box, normally via Yodel and have never yet seen a customs charge. Hopefully that doesn’t tempt fate! I subscribe to classics and country and normally they ship separately, I guess to avoid that. I believe they refund any charges as well, or used to. Not certain on that because never needed to.
Im surprised to see people getting their Doors LPs this early. Waiting on Dorothy and Merle, anyone gotten shipment notifications for those?
