I have just discovered this thread, and as charity shop DVDs are my new hobby, I shall be posting now and then. I like to have a film night every Saturday, for which I keep a special box of DVDs handy for selection. And I seem to be collecting the Marvel MCU films as and when they turn up in my local charity shops for 50p-£1
Just bought 10 DVDs for £3 in my local charity shop, including some I really want to see and some that might be awful. But at 30p each, it’s not much of a gamble: • The Girl on the Train (2016) • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) • It’s Complicated (2009) • Once Upon a Time in America (1984) • Pretty Woman (1990) • The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 remake) • Rebel Without a Cause (1955) • Rosetta (1999, with bonus film La Promesse from 1996) • The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) Thoughts on any of these?
Nope, it's the Argent Films Special Edition. Criterions are mostly not sold here (I think they have produced a handful of Region B Blu-Rays e.g. Kelly Reichardt's "Certain Women" but they are the exception).
David Lynch's Dune Anthony and Cleopatra Porridge S1 ...plus a fourth one that I cant remember at the moment I don't normally buy DVDs (prefer BD or 4K).... but it was a quid for the lot!
That's a great film. If I remember rightly, the soldiers move across the screen consistently in one direction when they are advancing, and back the other way when they are retreating. I happened to watch it at the same time as "War Horse" came out, and a review of that (I don't remember if it was of the film or the stage show) said the battle scenes made no sense. If a film made in 1930 can get these things right, why not something more recent? One of my favourites from my teenage years!
DVDs have gotten so cheap around me that I don't pick them up anymore. I left behind a sealed copy of "Birdman" for $1.00 yesterday. Unless it's a Blu Ray or something I've been wanting, I leave it behind. Trying to fight the pack rat instinct!
Checked tonight when I got home - the fourth title in my 4-for-a-quid splurge (!) was.... Carlito's Way
Found these DVDs at thrifts over the past few weeks. $1.00 each. Leonard Cohen - Live in London The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle Rome - The Complete Season 1-2 (HBO series)
Three for a total of £1: • Hope and Glory (1987) • The Man with Two Brains (1983) • The Go-Getter (2007) I saw the Steve Martin film many years ago. Anyone recommend H+G or The GG?
Bought a 10 disc Harry Potter DVD set for $10. After I finish the Coen Brothers box I'm binging Harry Potter.
