Good catch. The "be long"/"belong" wordplay repeated down the road on "Blue Jay Way."

I believe this would have made a hit single.

    And this audacious rhyme:

Yeah but you couldn't go wrong with two albums and a bunch of singles to work with.

Of course in the videos especially from 1966 on none of that stuff matters. In the clip for Paperback Writer Ringo is pretty much doing nothing while the others all had their guitars

Man, that repeated riff George does when it steps up to lead into the chorus is just perfect.

I always want to know if things like that were written that way, if it was worked out in rehearsals, or if George comes up with it without getting credit.

The two early takes of the song posted earlier in this thread don't have that part you specify so it seems it was worked out during the session.

I'd guess George came up with it. He came up with lots of uncredited parts.

The camera (operators) loved Paul's face, but John had a stage presence a charisma few if any perfomers could rival.

Great song. Love it since hearing it for the first time. Such a catchy and energetic song

Anybody know what that first chord is on All I Got to do?

I won't attempt to give it a name, but I play it xx6575

For all the years I've been performing this song, I still have some sort of a mental block against finding it on the fretboard. So I usually make some sort of joke about being in search of the lost chord until I'm able to figure it out.

I remember hearing somewhere [maybe Peter Asher on SiriusXM?] that it was the running to be a single. Until they came in with I Want To Hold Your Hand...

Great points on John and Paul…there was just something in John’s essence which transcended cute looks. It’s not even something he had control over…it was just “there”..a part of his natural makeup.

Not that arranger credit discussion again, please...

George was their lead guitarist. And good at it. I guess he came up with most of the licks he played. I mean it was his job in the band, right?

The only related argument I think warrants repetition is that George deserves credit for the riff in And I Love Her. It’s not just a lead part or an arrangement thing; it virtually defines the song. But I’ll stop there. For now.

Not in the same key but isn’t the voicing the same-or extremely close to-the second chord in I’m So Tired?

To be accurate it’s a G#, not Ab. It’s a major 3rd. Also B# as opposed to C. It’s a conceptual difference though of course sounds the same.

The augmented chord but without the additions :agree:

It's actually the second chord in the third part of each verse:

I draw the line at enharmonics!

Whoa, sorry dude. Didn’t know there was history with that question.

But I would argue that it’s also the writer’s job to write the song, right? Anyway, I wasn’t trying to derail the topic. It was just an innocent question that I find fascinating. I love the little details that make a song great and how those details came to be. Carry on!

Yes and also because of the similarities of the yeah's to "She Loves You" Personally I prefer it to "I Want To Hold Your Hand" which has never really grabbed me.
