Is this the original opening? You're reminding to look at the first season on my BritBox subscription. Partly why I subscribed. :)

No but whoever did thought well. There is a clip that shows a split screen on at least the Magnum P.I. and Star Wars one as how well the same kinds of actions for the scene cuts were made/chosen. Well done. You can watch it here:

This was the title sequence that was used when I saw the episode on PBS (they had a special showing of The Seventh Doctor's first story during a Pledge Drive), soon after it was broadcast in the U. K. I know that there was a long hiatus after The Sixth Doctor's last story, and so I guessing that they decided to make a new Title Sequence, this time in CGI.

One thing that is distinctive is that, as far as I know, this was the first time Doctor Who gave a new Doctor a completely new Title Sequence. The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Doctors all had Title Sequences that carried over a previous Doctor. One thing I liked about the Closing Sequence was that the TARDIS would repeatedly randomly tumble across the screen as the Credits rolled.

That said, it might be better to just post a video containing all of the Title Sequences so you can compare them for yourselves:

Ha. Nice. Course, I'm partial to the Columbia Pictures intros. Something about the torch lady/Statue of Liberty/Vesta mythological iconography still works.
The Sony overlay does kill it a bit though.

The camera pans down The Eiffel Tower as Third Stone From the Sun plays. Awesome. I remember when I saw this in the theater, the song was familiar but I couldn't place it. It drove me nuts trying to figure out what it was because I knew it but was drawing a blank.

Columbia was also the original female goddess representation of the United States.

Yeah, this isn't Vestia (or Hestia, the Greek counterpart). More like Pallas Athene, the chick who jumped out of Zeus' head ready to fight. But then I've seen Columbia repped in this famous "settlers painting"...

But the Columbia pictures image is definitely, Hestia, the goddess on Mount Olympus tending the sacred fire. Maybe it explains why American movies are sacrosanct to Americans. :)

Which is why the '76 Sunburst/Abstract Torch (w/Suzanne Ciani music) is my favorite of all of Columbia's movie logos.

I used to watch this in my childhood. It was in syndication on a local TV station back in the early 1970's.
