Hi All, Well, well, it turns out that the Sex Pistols are now back in court, turns out that, a TV series is being made, based on Steve Jones memoirs, Paul Cook is on board for this, but, Mr John Lyndon is refusing them the rights to use any of the Sex Pistols music for said TV series, as he believes that he is being portrayed in the series in a not so, good light, so the dispute has now gone to court.

is lydon the "controlling" member as relates the master use?

if so, that was a good move for him to have finagled whenever and if ever he did.

i hope it gets sorted. that would be a "fun" watch.

    Hhmmm. It’s Lydon not Lyndon.
And I’m not sure you’ve got your facts right.
He is a quarter of the total interest and can object to the music being used, for whatever reason.

Giving evidence from California on Friday afternoon, Mr Jones was read extracts of his book in which he described Mr Lydon as “the annoying little brat with the great bone structure who’s always asking for more”.

Mark Cunningham QC, representing Mr Lydon, put it to Mr Jones that the passage was “evidence of your resenting the prominence of Mr Lydon”.

Mr Jones replied: “I think there’s a lot of bands who resent each other.”

Mr Cunningham asked: “Do you dislike Mr Rotten (Lydon), the annoying little brat?”

Mr Jones said: “I guess so, yes.”

Mr Cunningham then referred to another passage of Mr Jones’ book in which he described Mr Lydon as a “total dick”, before saying that “every now and then he does something you have to commend him for”.

The barrister asked Mr Jones: “Your view of him is that he is a total dick, correct?”

    He replied: “Yes.”

I have to say Steve was very fair to Johnny in his book, and I'd say he bent over backwards to see others' points of view in general. It is far from a bashfest.

I wonder who this is. Did Vicious have any siblings?

I dunno. Normally, I’d have no problem piling on Lydon because of his d***ish behavior, but I acquired more empathy for him since I read his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I have to imagine that’s the reason for his substantial weight gain.

So, the guy who feels he's not being shown in a favorable light...decides to sue his bandmates?

    Oh, the irony.

"The six-part TV show, which is being made by Disney is based on Jones's memoir Lonely Boy: Tales From A Sex Pistol..."
    what could possibly go wrong?

isn't the rule that you can only enter a vehicle of that size if you are at least 2 meters tall on TV?

Is this TV show a "dramatisation"?

Ah, I see my question has been answered in the reply above. Carry on.

Aside from being portrayed less favourably than he would like, John probably has a good sense of when something is going to be garbage and doesn't want his music to be part of it. Expect he'll be proved right in this case.

For all of his brilliance John is extremely odd, it must have been awful being in a band with him, he wants total control of everything.
He was only one quarter of the band and the real songwriting talent was Glen Matlock.

I hope the the band win this case, this looks like it will be a fantastic series.

  20. The weight gain was a side effect of medication he was on.

Matlock was the songwriting talent? His solo career begs to differ. I completely understand Lydon's position : why would you authorise your music to be used in a TV show where you are described so unpleasantly?

John agreed along with the others that they would each have a vote on such matters.
The Sex Pistols only released one album, and it's a solid gold classic. Thanks to Glen Matlock.

Seems like it should be relatively easy to ascertain whether it's a "majority rules" or "any one person has veto power" situation.

He should refuse on principle, regardless of portrayal. A tv series? What a crock.
