We've had forum threads going back almost ten years (here, here and here, now all closed) about Clerks 3 gestating. Now it's all set to go, with Lionsgate picking up the global rights to the film. Film goes into production this August. The story will be about how Randal suffers a massive heart attack, then enlists the other characters to make a move about his life at the convenience store that started it all. Hollywood Reporter: Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks 3’ Lands at Lionsgate Deadline: Lionsgate Takes Global Rights To Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks III’ From the Deadline article: "[Kevin] Smith has written the screenplay and will direct, with all major cast members from the first two Clerks films set to reprise their roles: Jeff Anderson as Randal, Brian O’Halloran as Dante, Jay Mewes as Jay, Smith as Silent Bob, and Rosario Dawson as Becky. "In Clerks III, following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all."
That honestly sounds like a desperate attempt to grasp at the group of people who still swallow whole whatever he throws them about those 2 movies. Likely a cathartic exercise for Smith but I would've hoped that he'd instead try his hand at something more original. In his theatrical directorial efforts, he's been clinging onto these characters for way too long and hasn't put anything out in the last 5 years. There are always so many more ways for these sequels or rehashes to go down in flames than be revered. I hope for his fans that it'll fall onto the latter category.
Just moved into a house that's 2 minutes away from the Quick Stop. I read they'll be shooting on location, so really hoping to swing by during production.
Kevin , is nothing but cry baby of late you can look it on youtube.. I have always seen him as tool .. and opportunist wheneven he first started ..
I watched Clerks 2 just a few days ago and, imo, it's not nearly as bad as people have said. Not as good as the first one, of course.
As someone who grew up loving the early View Askew movies I hate to say it, but at some point Kevin Smith just stopped writing funny stuff. I don't know if he understand the characters he created 25+ years ago anymore enough to write for them today. (That's saying a lot since those characters were based on him and Bryan Johnson.)
I thought Clerks 2 was great, I loved that they're working at a fast food restaurant, and that's it's a step down from the Quik Stop. based on Smith's recent output, though, i'm not optimistic about a third movie.
I don't see Scott Mosier's name involved. I know one of the hold ups years ago with Clerks 3 was Mosier and Jeff Anderson being upset at the Weinstein group over their payment for Clerks 2 and they refused to do # 3.
The twist is they're all dead and in purgatory. Has to be. Even with what I expect are good chances of a Melissa Benoist cameo, this doesn't sound good.
That’s too bad. He should have done The Green Hornet when they offered it to him. It had to be better than what we got.
They've renovated the rest of that 'strip-mall' to be.... THE SMODCASTLE! a small 50-seat theatre where for the past two-weeks, he's been doing podcasts!
so we're gonna' see these middle-aged guys still hanging out at a convenience store? the first one was boring, I can't imagine this one will be much better ...
Granted I don't think Green Hornet was his choice; he did write a script and eventually released it as a comic book.
I don't mean to be a pessimist, but I don't think Kevin's made a good movie since the original Clerks. His stuff is just really adolescent, but at least that one is grounded adolescence that shows something about generation x.
