I had no idea about this film, must have passed me by but it does look amazing, and with a great cast as well (Jodie Comer, Adam Driver, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck)
Having read the history behind this story I can definitely see it p*ssing off a certain segment of society...
I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this one, I had previously seen the trailer on youtube but I didn't catch that it was a Ridley Scott film. Though I still haven't watched his last film All the Money in the World even though I have had it on Blu-ray for some time now.
I think Ridley should have the winner of the duel fight a duel with Keith Carradine in his next episode.
Thanks for mentioning that. I try to watch everything done by Scott, but All the Money fell off my radar. I was able to stream it on Prime--it's fantastic. Plummer is just exceptional at playing a wealthy SOB, but all the characters were well cast.
Hopefully the last movie title with ‘The Last…’ in it. on topic: since Scott’s last movies bored me to tears, I’m gonna wait for the reviews before spending money on this.
I thought so too, much to my surprise, since it had been quite a while that I liked a Ridley Scott movie. The Last Duel appears to have the same central idea as his debut film The Duellists (1977), which is one of my favorite Ridley Scott movies (together with Alien and Blade Runner). However, and it could be the trailer, but the tone of The last Duel feels a bit labored, a feeling that was completely absent in All The Money In The World. And while I'm not a Damon/Affleck hater, their appearance does feel a bit odd in a medieval setting.
Yes, though I always connect 'duel' with weapons using gunpowder. Now 'trial by combat' I understand.
Confused. Looks like they spent a bunch of money, but it doesn't appear to have any Marvel characters in it? On a serious note, looks great. Big Ridley fan.
I'm a fan of Ryan and Jodie... Free Guy; another movie I want to see...Free Guy is only showing at the movies...no streaming as of yet...will there be soon? I hope so...
I would absolutely love to see Ridley Scott do a western, I bet it would be one of the best ever made!
First review from Collider... 'The Last Duel' Review: Ridley Scott's Epic, 'Rashomon' Inspired Medieval Drama is Shockingly Brutal and Nuanced | Venice 2021 Really looking forward to this.
While doing press duties for The Last Duel at the Venice Film Festival Sir Ridley said that he's interested in tackling a genre that he's not tried yet, so he's looking into making a musical or western next.
Saw a tremendously negative review from the Guardian, but like lots of their reviews, there's no real sense that it's a film. The way it's discussed, it could be a play or book. Maybe the reviewer simply doesn't have the vocabulary to review it as a film.
