This was followed by the Best Trilogy. Jeff Lynne again: "For the previous three albums, I'd kind of sluffed a bit, you know? Just enough to get by. Because the union session players wouldn't even sit by to finish the damn records. And critics kept complaining "wanker isn't really giving up his best." With A New World's Record, I thought 'you want the best? Well, here you bloody go, lads!' And I stuck with it through New World, Out of the Blue, and Discovery. That's my Best Trilogy: They come to the New World, then Out of the Blue they blast into space where they make a startling Discovery. Then I decided I was done Doing that Crazy Thing for a while. But that's another story."
And Nick Lowe boxed up three of his later albums as "The Brentford Trilogy". Probably a false, or arbitrary, trilogy. "At My Age" seems to be very similar. Am I missing something?
While I like the passenger album it may have been more of an exercise than album per se...I might substitute passengers for pop.

Yes but what connects them even remotely? I guess one could say that Meddle/DSOTM/WYWH because they were all collaborative and were produced by the group and the next three were largely Waters borne concepts.

Wilco: Summerteeth, Yankke Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born. Not only three great records but a thematic thread about our ability to communicate and how technology:distance shapes that. Also Paul Simons Carrie Fisher trilogy: Hearts and Bones, Graceland, and Rhythm of the Saints
I'm convinced, II was just the same pages played backwards, and III was the same pages played upside down.
Interesting turn of events for Everything But The Girl. Idlewild and The Language Of Life was shaping-up as a good possible trilogy, then life intervened, as Ben Watts' health problems changed the way they produced and toured and even though about their sound. We see more of an acoustic bent from them, music that can be performed as a duo in intimate settings, on smaller tourss, as well as easier ergonomics in the setup. Worldwide, Acoustic and [Amplified Heart are also informed by their stops along the way near medical campuses like the Mayo Clinic. This separates the duo's sound also from the next two, more electronically-driven albums, as Ben had taken the time of his recuperation to also focus on deejay work and a more modern sense of production. Which also led him into starting his own label separate from Tracey. Which is why I see the middle albums as the trilogy: the progress of life choices changing the way the music got made, but also the transition itself taking precedence over what came before it, or after it.
I totally hear that. The Idiot is very much like Iggy's Low (and was of course also recorded at Hansa).
