Daniel Barenboim (almost) Complete Solo Recordings On Deutsche Grammophon, Westminster And Philips £32.04 at Amazon UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06ZZYDG1V?psc=1
FWIW that second box (from BIS) is on sale at Presto Classical for $40. Of course, when you add the $10 shipping to the US it isn't that much different from the US Amazon price. And if you like David Hurwitz's reviews, he raved about it. Villa Lobos Box - Classics Today
I'm surprised there isn't a more comprehensive box. His string quartets are excellent. I've never been able to get into the rest of his music.
There's a nice disc of guitar concerto and solo pieces performed by Julian Bream that I listen to every few months. This quartet set is enjoyable, too.
There are some bargains at jpc.de: La Nilsson for € 99,99 Decca Sound Piano Edition € 59,99 Shaping the Century Vol. 1 € 42,99 Pierre Henry Polyphonies € 19,99 Max Reger Orchestral Edition € 19,99 Anatol Ugorski Complete DGG € 19,99 and more https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/offers
There is one of this listed as "new" for EUR 3.99 on Amazon Germany at this moment. Unfortunatelly they do not ship to my destination.
jpc took my order for La N which I placed very shortly after the original post above. Now to see if they ship! Great price. Thanks Gentian for the heads up.
Chailly Stravinsky Edition - no original jackets. Artwork is various parts of the box's oil painting that has been zoomed in. Good news is the performances are phenomenal, like some of the best Stravinsky I've heard. Booklet has libretto. Chailly really liked velvet tracksuits for rehearsals.
I have the 100 CD set and the '24 hours' one. Minimal overlap, and the smaller set has a lot of complete works - not 'bleeding chunks'. Great introductory set. [EDIT- but no booklet, it could have done with one to help newcomers to classical].
Bought a few more boxes since last visiting: DG Originals volume II Great Moments at Carnegie Hall Bernstein Vocal Works all around $100 each. Naxos Choral Collection for $80 - nice, if eclectic, box. and the best bargain of the bunch; the EMI Festival of Ballet, 50 CDs for $50 off ebay. [EDIT Oops, plus the 28 CD Brilliant Classics Michael Haydn Edition].
That looks fantastic - I don't have much Saint-Saens, but what I have I like. I will be interested to see what the price is like.
Hmmm. 8 CDs of historical recordings - that's about a quarter of the box. Piano rolls can make good quality transfers but 1904/19 gramaphone records won't be good.
Just picked up a few boxes for good prices off ebay: Previn Complete HMV Bonynge Ballet Box Galway Complete Columbia
I already have symphonies directed by Martinon and twice, the piano concertos directed by Previn. Those historical recordings are one of the reasons to buy....
Completed my biggest Discogs box set submission so far: André Cluytens – The Complete Orchestral & Concerto Recordings
Nice haul. I've been looking at that Bonynge box for a while but decided the EMI Festival of Ballet one I picked up will do for now. I've been working my way through the Galway; up to CD 23 and loving it so far. There was one disc of Japanese music I listen to a lot. [EDIT: And I think it's RCA, just in case anyone was thinking they missed a box ].
