It's hard to beat the Alpha label for great Baroque recordings. Anyway, yes, the organists are not using some puny Baroque organ, but they don't turn these works into Louis Vierne, either! 24/96 FLAC...Qobuz has it, too.
Bass arias recorded 2/21/46 & 4/17/46, Liederkranz Hall, NYC. Issued as a 78-rpm set in 1947 & on this 1948 LP. The first Columbia LP was ML 4001. The early Columbia LPs all had this generic design paper sleeve with rear flap. Pinza went to Broadway in 1949 to star in the original production of South Pacific.
*wave* Been lurking. Popping in for my annual visit Been listening to discs from the 30 CD Naxos Choral Collection which I'm liking even more than their excellent Early Music Collection.
First listen to CD 3 from new arrival "Troubadours - Cantigas de Santa Maria" performed by the Clemencic Consort directed by Rene Clemencic on Harmonia Mundi France. 1995
I got an email back on June 7th saying the disc would be sent "in the next week". So that makes it 7-8 weeks, but the standard post out of Germany is really slow at the moment. The full box set is still sitting in a DHL centre in Frankfurt. I would have happily paid extra to do DHL Express instead.
Now playing the following CD from my miscellaneous classical collection ... I have owned the following LP version of the Beethoven Emperor for over 40 years ...
I try to listen to this and other favorites once a year. That's probably easier for me since I'm sure my collection is smaller than yours.
On the turntable: Elgar Overtures. Sir Adrian Boult / London Philharmonic EMI LP / 1972 / Made in England
