When I checked Walmart's website just now, the first two albums are still available from Walmart (not from resellers), for $22.97 each, and have been for a few weeks.
Do we think they are making more of these Metallica or were these leftovers? I need a Master of Puppets and they’re gone.
I'm curious where you read or heard this. I don't have a solid reason to doubt it, other than general assumptions regarding how corporations like Walmart operate and the fact that AFAIK they never said any of these were limited editions. My hunch is that they're observing and learning from the ongoing vinyl frenzy and either pressing larger numbers, or repressing them in response to demand. After all, their sole purpose for existing is to make money, and they have vast resources for analyzing and understanding their markets, and a strong motive to short circuit flippers and steer more of that $$ into their own coffers. I could see them playing a balancing act, generating a FOMO buying frenzy by not offering any info on numbers for pressings that in reality aren't limited at all, and continuing to press them until demand dries up. But maybe I'm giving them too much credit. I guess time will tell..
Overestimate or underestimate Walmart at your own peril... But I align with your thinking. I'd be surprised if any of these Walmart pressings ever carry significant enough demand to be profitable for flippers/speculators. I would think a company like Walmart, who is notorious for bullying its "partner companies" entered into any contract that wasn't one-sided. While also acknowledging this colored vinyl is like 0.0000000000001% of their sales. Probably less. So maybe they don't really care, and these pressings may eventually be sought-after. But I'd put my $ on your assessment, that even a little tiny thing like their vinyl rac is managed by some brilliant people with tons of data.

Neat concept, but I'd bet more than a few of these will ship from the factory warped because of the included DVD.
Can anyone vouch for Metallica's self-titled (Black Album). Saw a copy in store yesterday, and I have to go back to Wal-Mart for a kids birthday gift. Wondering if this pressing is worth picking up!
