Carlos Santana: New music, 'Splendiferous' playlist and upcoming tour

According to this article in USA Today, they are "putting the final touches on it"...

    Also from the article:

Santana's collaborators this time around are set to include fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Steve Winwood of Traffic and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, as well as Mark Osegueda of metal outfit Death Angel. Country singer/songwriter Chris Stapleton wrote a new song for the album.

    And finally...

He even reunites with Rob Thomas, singer of the "Supernatural" smash single "Smooth," for "Move." “It’s delicious, it’s incredible,” Santana said of the collaboration.

No firm release details at the moment, so who know? This may not see release until 2022...

I just hope that it isn't smashed like the last one. Musically, that was a superb album BUT painful on these ears :realmad:. If I want it loud, I'll increase the volume. There is something magical by well produced album with a high DR.:uhhuh:

Yes, I afraid that CD will have a DR4 or 5... I didn't buy his last album because of the horrible compression.

DR 4 - 8. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet. I did like Africa Speaks much more than expected but you are not exaggerating on the horrible compression.

This is the first track from the new album..

I think it's nothing special. And this is best I can say about it

he hasn't created a full album i thoroughly enjoyed since Beyond Appearances back in '85.

i could maybe make 1 full album of things he's done since then.
i still love his guitar tone, but it's usually the other artists or singers he uses that i just don't care for.

Speaking of Santana albums after the 1985 year, Brothers album was quite good. Milagro OK as well. But i have a feeling that only few tracks on the upcoming album will be good, sadly :((

Another vote for Milagro, the Santana sound intact.

I think Santana IV, the Isley Brothers album, and Africa Speaks were a really impressive late-career run. Sounds like this one is going to be one of his sellout albums though. Still gotta be better than Guitar Heaven.

i completely forgot about Santana IV for some strange reason, i mean, it's insane that i forgot it cause i LOVE that album, so IV is the only album
    he's done since 1985 that i've liked....now i have it corrected, haha. :)

Stevie Winwood on the Procol Harum track. That alone might snare me.

That was the only thing that hooked me looking at it. The Rob Thomas track is awful.

Santana IV is the only Santana album I have really liked since probably Moonflower. However, live they are still amazing.

Hey, Carlos could have brought Chad from Nickelback back for a song or two.

Ya, Winwood is the only "guest" that I am familiar with on the new album.

Santana IV was a wasted opportunity (imo). The Abraxas Pool album (without Carlos,) was the last Santana related thing I liked.

Not better than the original, but a darn fine homage. Love it…

I listen to all three of the available tracks from this album and I just haven't heard anything to be excited about yet. I guess this is typical with Santana, as evident from the various opinions of likable albums in the past. I'm going to have to get used to the fact that this album isn't going to be my cup of tea this time around.

Why didn’t Carlos get Gary Brooke to sing AWSOP? The version with Steve Winwood is awful.
