I enjoyed the first three episodes -- great chemistry among the three leads! I was quite impressed with Selena Gomez, since I've never seen her in appear in anything as an actress. Incidentally, I liked Sting's brief and funny cameo in the third episode. Here's an article from USAToday: Only Murders in the Building review: Steve Martin, Short, Gomez shock
This show got a rave review on NPR the other day, and I was laughing out loud in my car during the clips they played. Sounds like something I really need right now! Looking forward to watching it hopefully this weekend. dan c
Some viewers won't like that all 10 episodes aren't available at once. But I, for one, appreciate the "old school network" release model for some shows, this one included.
Looks good and I will be checking it out. My only concern is whether Selena Gomez has the acting chops to keep up with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Another great review, this one from VARIETY; 'Only Murders in the Building' Review: Selena Gomez Stars in Hulu Show - Variety
This show (which I was really looking forward to seeing) is streaming on Disney + (!) in Canada. Guess I'll never see it unless they issue it on disc at some point.
Sting is back in episode #4, according to the trailer! Steve Martin & Martin Short are looking pretty old, but their talent is as good as ever and they are very funny, very gifted comics with impeccable timing.
In his autobiography Short said he had not had any face work done. Pretty rare for an actor his age I imagine.
I thought Martin Short looked great until about a year or so ago and now all of a sudden time has caught up with him all at once. I hope he is in good health.
Martin Short shocked me with how good of an actor he is in the small but memorable role he has in The Morning Show. I guess I'm not alone as he won an Emmy for it. He's showing some of his acting chops in this show too. By all accounts a very classy guy too. I've only seen the first episode of this show so far, but it looks good.
I loved the scenes where he visited his son. I don't know if it was scripted or ad-libbed, but he repeatedly addressed his son as "honey". I don't know of any father who does that, but it was very touching. I find Gomez very attractive, but so far (two episodes in), not a very convincing actor. I'm not getting any sense of what she's feeling beyond her spoken lines. Maybe it's because she's in the shadow of Short and Martin...
I'm watching and enjoying - two comedians I'va always liked. Yeah. they're both showing their age (but that's fine), so when they did the flashback to a younger Martin Short presenting his idea to that group at the table, it was painful to see the attempt to make him look younger. The long hair gimmick wasn't enough. But at the same time - a show like this - they could have been satirizing the use of these sorts of flashbacks and how ridiculous they can seem.
