Just the other day, I was spinning Clapton’s 2016 album with Glynn Johns and wondering when his next release will be. For past year, he’s been issuing one-off singles and been more in the news for his views on vaccines and lockdown.

Anyway, just got the answer. The next release titled “The Lady In The Balcony:”Lockdown Sessions” will be out on November 12. An audio-video affair, kinda like Unplugged Vol.2, it was recorded when his Albert Hall gigs were cancelled this summer and he took the core band for more intimate sessions in the English country side. Here’s the track list:

The Lady In The Balcony Track Listing:
    01. Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out
    02. Golden Ring
    03. Black Magic Woman
    04. Man of the World
    05. Kerry
    06. After Midnight
    07. Bell Bottom Blues
    08. Key to the Highway
    09. River of Tears
    10. Rock Me Baby
    11. Believe in Life
    12. Going Down Slow
    13. Layla
    14. Tears in Heaven
    15. Long Distance Call
    16. Bad Boy
    17. Got My Mojo Working

Available in many formats: DVD+CD, Blu-ray+CD, 4K UHD+Blu-ray, 2 LPs pressed on yellow vinyl, and a Deluxe Edition containing the DVD, Blu-ray & CD packaged in a 40 page 12” x 12” hardback photo book, digital video & digital audio. In addition, a CD-only version will be available exclusively at Target.

    Here’s the trailer:

While a lot of the set list looks familiar, I look forward to some of the choices:

    - the two Peter Green covers, Black Magic Woman and Man Of The World
    - Bad Boy from the solo debut making a rare appearance!

The rendition of Bell Bottom Blues seems interesting too and something I think he hasn’t covered for a while. Wish he didn’t have to redo staples like Tears In Heaven, Layla and Nobody Knows You for the zillionth time but guess you always need those to move more sales. Count me in for the CD+Blu-ray version…

I'm definitely interested. Seems like a mellow vibe throughout, a decent late night listen.
I like that the band is playing together in the same room, and as far as I can tell
Simon Climie has not marred up the recordings with drum loops and front and center
female vocals awkwardly loud in the mix. Clapton's voice is strong. I am optimistic.

Apparently three songs will feature electric guitars, which depending where they are in the sequence, may really help to enliven things up.

I have a UHD player but have never owned 4K disc yet. Maybe this could be my first foray into 4K Blu-ray and finally push me to upgrade my super old AVR to one that does 4K.

As long as I don’t hear him moan about his anti-waxxing arguments, I’m in.

Yeah, the trailer gives that good late evening listen vibe and the acoustic arrangements should suit the mood. I just looked up the recording location and it seems like a lovely venue in Surrey.

Btw, just hit me that this new “mostly” acoustic performance comes about 30 years after the mega successful Unplugged!

Looks interesting, however the price for CD/Blu ray needs to come down a bit before I jump.

"Golden Ring" - the George and Tammy song? Possibly? The press release mentions "country..."

This release is some ways similar to the Sessions For Robert J that came out in 2004. Eric and a small band filmed recording music in a small location and released on CD/DVD.

Sessions for Robert J was great companion release to the studio album of same material, Me and Mr Johnson. I hope they release the full film on Blu-ray again, it would be worth an upgrade.
