Whats the consensus on the new anthology box? Any of these titles rare or hard to find in the used market? One title i looked up, 360 degrees, looked like a $3 record according to Discogs. Not that average used price is a reason to buy or not to buy, but if there are some rare cuts it might make me more inclined to buy.
Yeah, but at nearly $40 per album, that seems rather pricey, even for VMP. Like, if that was their price individually, sure, maybe, but for the whole set? That's pretty steep.
Yes, I agree their Anthologies are pricey. I've never bit on one for that reason but most of them get excellent reviews.
My August picks came today (finally). I'll throw the Lee Morgan on later, but I listened to the first LP of the PE album while cooking dinner and...oh baby, that's a good one. SQ is great, packaging is solid, bass is there and cranking it up on the Hi-Fi just made me thank Buddha again for the Bomb Squad. That's one of the best VMPs I've received so far. Makes me think I need to find a good pressing of It Takes a Nation Of Millions.
VMP’s crappy mailers strike again. Sleeve damage on all three ROTMs. I like a lot of the stuff these guys put out and re-upped my sub a few months ago, but am going to let my sub lapse again after this month. I’m tired of paying $30+ for records that show up damaged and I shouldn’t have to contact CS every month to get replacements.
I was going to say - I'm looking forward to the VMP Lee Morgan, but after the past 2-3 years of solid Lee Morgan reissues I'm getting a little Lee Morgan'd out.
A General question about swap title/selections for essential track. I am planning to subscribe this weekend, are some or all of 10 VMP 100 titles available for new essential track subscribers? If yes, as swap, only as joining title or only for buying?
Facebook mentioned November, Buck Owens (blue vinyl). Sundaze is releasing the same album, but on coke color vinyl in November.
Of the eight, Dexter Wansel is the only remotely rare one of the eight. You can't get anything close to NM for $40 at the current prices. But with the other 7, you can get really nice copies of all (maybe NM depending) for $10-15 each. Harold Melvin might run you closer to $30 for a NM. That's a GREAT record by the way, along with the O'Jays. AAA mastering is obviously a plus, but you can easily recreate this set (minus Dexter) with really nice originals for 1/3 the price.
I'm noticing a lot of right channel noise in the right channel of sides A and B of my Wu-Tang album. Bummer. Gotta try cleaning it.
My ELH has some godawful crackle at the end of each side, just when the last song on each is coming to an end. Bummer. Not worth sending back, but I wish VMP would get their QA act together.
Some of the VMP100 titles are available only for new subscribers. Those same titles are not available to Members with existing subscriptions, and won't be available in swaps.
The Lee Morgan sounds fantastic. And it's a very worthy set to be reintroduced to a wider audience. Everyone knows his Blue Note stuff, but I don't think this one for Jazzland gets much attention. I dig it.
How so? If someone without a membership wants Stankonia they can start their subscription with that album. That is the only way to get it from VMP - it’s not available to current Members in the store and not guaranteed to be in swaps.
