What's some amusing stage banter you've witnessed or has been captured on a live recording.
Apologies if this thread has been done before.

 

Keith Moon's pretty funny on The Who's 1975 Houston video. He mocks John Entwistle's 'Thank You's' after Boris the Spider. 'Thanks John, Thanks a Hell of a Lot!'

A lot of Keith examples I suppose.

 

Lou Reed used to do the Dirty Harry (1971) line: "....Did he fire five shots or six......feelin' lucky punk?" in 1982 concerts for reasons that aren't clear.

 

John Lennon after Paul McCartney performed a solo ' Yesterday' on stage :
" Thank you, Ringo. That was lovely"

 

Gillan: Yeah everything up here please. A bit more monitor if you’ve got it
Blackmore: “Can I have everything louder than everything else?”
Gillan: “Yeah, can he have everything louder than everything else.”

Ian Anderson has some really funny stage banter on Jethro Tull's Bursting Out Live, especially when introducing the song "Hunting Girl":

"Now to finally lay to rest any ugly rumors that John Glascock is a kinky bastard who likes being thrashed severely across the bum, we'll do it only very slightly in the next song..."

 

Pete's banter on Live at Leeds is amusing.

 

I gotta give it to Chris Isaak, he's the master.

I was underwhelmed by the Robert Pollard compilation of between songs banter, can't remember its name...I expected it to be much funnier but maybe I wasn't drunk enough

 

If I recall correctly, I like the monologues on Sinatra At The Sands.

 

I'm a huge fan of Robyn Hitchcock's between song banter and stories.

 

Mikael Ackerfeldt from Opeth has some excellent stage banter...

 

Jeez, anything Robbie Fulks says by a country mile.

 

Neko Case and Kelly Hogan had a pretty funny, understated rapport when I saw them at the 9:30 club years ago.

B.B. King in his heyday was pretty funny, although everything was scripted ahead of time.

Fairport in the late 80s (and quite possible later) were brilliant. I'm sure anyone who saw them then will remember things like "Wear the fox hat" and DM getting out from behind the drum kit for a couple of minutes of silliness.

 

Almost everything Dee Snider says in between songs is hilarious. He could do stand-up.

 

A few years ago I saw Danish band D-A-D play their best selling album from start to finish.
At the start the singer said something like this: "We're playing our album "Riskin' it all" from start to finish. We've never done this before, so let's see how it goes. By the way, you're getting all the good songs first, cause that's how the album goes, so we finish with the poor ones" and the guitarist chipped in with "and the crappy one....".....
And when they finished playing the album the singer said: "Right that's it. That went down pretty well I think. Now we could just collect our pay and go home....... but how do you feel, if we play a bit more" and started playing without waiting for the response....
