My order of Solid plus a couple 45s shipped last week but tracking number is not currently working. Says item either has no updates or incorrect number. Hoping it updates soon.

My order came in and I am currently on side 2 of A Night In Tunisia. So far this is an amazing. Sounding and flawless record. The music is so good. I had a 70s pressing of this that was a litte too noisy, but have loved this music for a long time now. This one will get a lot of spins. Blakey is playing in top form here. The compositions are average for a Jazz Messengers session, but I feel that Blakey and Merritt in particular really elevate this session. Everyone else is in fine form too, but this may be one of, if not, the best performance from these two artist on a Messengers album (aside from Free For All). Great stuff.

I hope I did. These titles show as “in stock” on the main listing page that shows multiple MMJ titles, show as “backordered” on their individual pages but the add to cart button worked and my order went through. I’ll have to wait to see if I actually get them.

Which of the 2019 SRX MMJ were new masters?

    2019? All of them.

    2020? None of them.

  12. All of them were new masters. Introducing Johnny Griffin and Blues Walk hadn’t been done by MMJ at all previously. The rest had been done, but at 45.

So do the 2019 masters all theoretically suffer from warblegate? My copy of Solid is excellent - haven't heard any problems.

Spoke with someone at ED. Apparently they only had a couple copies of each and oversold. Looks like a bunch of cancelled orders coming. I hope you got one of them David.

I appreciate your well wishes. ED had an OOP MMJ Ike Quebec title available recently, which I purchased only to have my order cancelled the next day. Hoping for better luck this time.

That’s unfortunate! They need a better inventory system.

I had a chance to spin Gil Melle - Patterns in Jazz last night and it is a really cool and unique session. The first couple of tracks are especially captivating and the compositional aspect of the songs is really good. I like the way the musicians interact with one another as well. The improvisational parts even seem to have a compositional element to them which I like. The bass sounds wonderful and there are a lot of seamless transitions between guitar, sax, and drums that make for a tight and enjoyable session. There is also a feeling of mystery in the air for this particular Blue Note. If you ask me, this is a hidden gem within the Music Matters catalog.

I was thinking about making one final MMJ purchase and was going to try and keep it around $200 - 250. What would you guys recommend from this list. I am pretty torn

From the list below the Andrew Hill is the only title I am willing to spend that much on, but am also hesitant to when I could get a combination of other great titles for the same price. I have listened to all of these titles at one point or another and all are great. I feel like Hank Mobley Sextet at $49.95 is a no brainer. Other than that, I am having a hard time making up my mind.

Tina Brooks - Back to the Tracks - $59.95
    Johnny Griffin - Vol. 2 $79.95
Andrew Hill - Point of Departure - $124.95
Elvin Jones - Putting It Together - $49.95
Jackie McLean - Swing Swang Swingin' - $44.95
    Hank Mobley - Sextet - $49.95
    Hank Mobley - Another Workout - $99.95
    Hank Mobley - Quintet - $99.95
Horace Parlan - Spur of the Moment - $64.95
Freddie Redd - Shades of Redd - $49.95
Sam Rivers - Fuschia Swing Song - $74.95

For those! Picked them up recently and they are fantastic. Shades of Redd is so underrated.

There are some great records here. Fuschia Swing Song is a standout for me. Also I think the Elvin Jones record is underrated, but that me be more of a matter of taste.

(and edited to affirm your Point of Departure pick!)

Andrew Hill PoD - must have
Sam Rivers FSS (one of best of series to me and Tony Williams on drums! Sq is top notch even for an MMJ).
Freddie Redd SoR is an underrated gem for sure. I like it better than True Blue for an album featuring Tina Brooks.

Those are my votes! Can’t go wrong in general though.
