The Misfits throughout the Evilive album (which I just realized was a palindrome ) while they go at it with the audience. "You think you'll be outta the hospital in time?" Cracks me up.

And pretty much anything Robyn Hitchcock says between songs is worth the price of admission.

No mentions of Tom Waits yet?! He's got some funny stories on the live album Nighthawks at the Diner, and Glitter and Doom (another of his live albums) includes one disc just with stage banter. And of course, there are many other examples in bootlegs.

I've shared this here before but when I saw Billy Joel a few years ago the first words out of his mouth were, "Hi, I'm Billy Joel's dad."

Probably the most funny on-stage banter is by Mac Demarco... Here's a fun one... Not sure if you can call it banter though! Haha

Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols on their notorious first tour of America calling the audience a bunch of effing wankers virtually as soon as he hits the stage.

New Order, Reading Festival 1998: Two songs and nine minutes into their appearance, Bernard Sumner introduces the third song (which will happen to be the old Joy Division track Isolation): "This next song....is our last, and then we're off back to Manchester."*

Can't believe no one has mentioned Todd Snider. His between song tales are pure standup.

When he's in a good mood, Pete Townshend is pretty hilarious. I especially like his storytelling from the La Jolla show where he talks about the wedding at his hotel and the annoying electric guitar player.

When I saw Aimee Mann and Michael Penn in the 90's they had Patton Oswalt do the between songs stage banter which was hilarious; I've seen Richard Thompson a bunch of times and I always thought he was the funniest in a self-deprecating manner.
