Still insisting that "Stairway To Heaven" belongs in the top 100?

Very good idea - people could just see a phenomenal playlist to be explored, rather than bickered over. Less clickbaity, agree.

I guess I'll have to wait until the next list to see 'Box of Rain' by The Grateful Dead at number one. This will happen, right?

Why would you be happy about that? You automatically don't like it because someone here doesn't?

I love The Beatles. But if “I Want to Hold Your Hand” can make it to #15, the list is biased toward them, not against them.

There must be a pro-Beatles agenda at work because on the 2004 list, the Beatles' highest song was #8. Now their highest song is #7. Sinister. /s

'Hey Ya' is one of the defining songs of the 00s. 'Yesterday' is also a defining song, but from a time when the majority of the current world population was not even born yet.

No.1 (Respect by Aretha) and 3 (A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke) are tracks 2 and 3 on side 1 of Otis Blue - Otis Redding Sings Soul. (Otis wrote respect). Just sayin……..

Rolling Stone Magazine's prior list of the 500 Greatest Songs from around 10 years ago was classic rock heavy and included, in the top 20, songs like Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," The Who's "My Generation," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," John Lennon's "Imagine," Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," and Aretha Franklin's "Respect."

    <moderator edit>

The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" gets a big jump up on the list from their last one (which had "Good Vibrations" ahead).

I still want to know what made those three songs jump ahead of Like A Rolling Stone since the last time the list was compiled. I could understand it if all three songs were recent and had been released since the last list. But no.

I think there are different people on the panel of artists and industry people who either have different opinions or grown older with changing tastes.

Otis' original is my favorite version of "Respect".

Do you not appreciate any silly, non-serious or playful films? Why do people treat songs differently?

There you go again, with your common sense.
Personally, I'll bet everyone on the panel is vaccinated too. Disgrace. :magoo:

Kelly Clarkson's ‘Since U Been Gone’ made the top 100. That should piss off this forum. LOL

Okay, so I peeked at the list...I love Public Enemy, but "Fight The Power" the second-best song of all time? That says it all.

Oh, and the Mac's "Dreams" at nine really says it all - they key to being ranked high on the RS list is to have one of your old songs become a random viral TikTok video with a guy skateboarding and drinking cranberry juice!

    Way to go, RS gurus...
