Now that we are no longer speculating about it, let's discuss the officially announced box set in this thread. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=548831472862588
Can’t wait to have this Boxset on my shelf along the 4 previous ones. BBC radio Theater would be so nice if included
Perhaps the moderators could combine as great minds think alike: David Bowie Box Set 5 Content Speculation Presumably in addition to the four studio albums (Black Tie White Noise, 1. Outside, Earthling and 'hours ...' ... presumably we will get Buddha of Suburbia and Earthling in the City. Regarding the latter, the (almost) last act on the old thread was for @NightGoatToCairo to claim that Earthling In the City is a six-track EP, 2021's David Bowie box set 5 (Speculation Thread)* Wiki, seems to agree with both me and @Zach Johnson that it is a mini-album (six tracks at just over 30 minutes running time): Earthling in the City - Wikipedia
Until the full content is revealed in a press release it'll just be more speculation, these threads usually start with it
With some degree of irony I note that the link is to a Wikipedia page that refers to it as a “6 track promotional CD” and…. “EP by David Bowie”.
Per the announcement, details are due by the end of the month, so things will be even less speculative in a week or two.
It's still speculation until the full announcement, don't see the point in closing the old thread, until more information is forthcoming.
It'll sure be nice to take one step closer to having a complete career spanning set. Buying these has been like the Brilliant Adventure live debacle, but in slow motion and not quite as limited. The big question, of course, is will they stick with gold discs? I guess we'll have to wait and see. I also predict that the box will be released two weeks early in China.
The point being; it's not a live EP/mini-album or whatever. It has 3 studio tracks and 3 live tracks.
And only 2 of the tracks (the live in New York City recordings from the 50th birthday concert) are exclusive to it. And Pallas Athena was put on the new version of Liveandwell.com. I really doubt Earthling in the City will get its own release in the box though it's likely several of the tracks will appear in Re:Call or a remix disc.
I rather enjoy the off-setting boxset cover. It's a deeper delve into David's psyche and it captures the 90s era perfectly. But, I'm just a worm. (Sorry, just got back from The Labyrinth.)
Certain to be in set: Black Tie/White Noise (1 cd/1 or 2 lp) Buddha of Suburbia (1 cd/1 or 2lp) Outside (1 cd/2lp) Earthling (1 cd/2 lp) Hours (1 cd/1 lp) Recall (1 or 2 cd/2 lp) Guesses: Toy (1 cd/2 lp) Hours remix (1 cd/1 lp) Boston 1997 or another live set (2 cd/3lp) 10-11 cd/15-17 lp Maybe a live album won't be included but it would be odd since every other set has included a live album. Hours and Black Tie were all released as single LPs but maybe they'll do them as doubles to make the set more appealing. Buddha will probably be a double too, but you never know.
Kind of what I meant, that it would be on ReCall X. Wasn't what I said though! Yes, I noticed the confusion, but at six tracks (live or otherwise) and over 30 minutes, EP is stretching it more than a little.
Not sure if I am ready for this new thread… It was quite a journey and the fact that this box is really being released feels very surreal.
The big questions are : Will toy be in it? Will there be any live albums included? Which album will be remixed? How will the many remixes be dealt with? I just hope valuable space isn't wasted on storytellers and Glastonbury.
Since the speculation thread is closed and there isn't a Toy thread yet, thought I'd leave these here. Sent a few minutes ago by a friend of mine. Make of them what you will:
Given that the 10" four-song vinyl release for The Width of a Circle last year (which did not include the title track) was described as an LP... it seems they will stretch any description to fit whatever label is most convenient!
Yeah the skin tone is richer also in this one - I hope they represent every aspect of David Robert Jones' id: we will then get a cover with Cobbler Bob on it too.
This thread should not have been started until the Box Set was officially announced with Content Information and the Release Date, as now we just get a few more weeks of wild speculations(which could have been continued on the prior thread). Oh well, at least I have an approximate date to check back in this Thread for that official announcement.
