The amount of audience goodwill towards Michael Gandolfini has to be tremendous. I don't know if anyone else would have wanted to step into that role.

Saw the trailer for this yesterday right before the Malignent movie.

I'm in. Is this only in the Theater?

It’s on HBO Max on October 1, same day it’s in theaters.

Trailer looks very promising. I'm hoping for lots of Uncle Junior in this.

Looking forward to enjoying it on its own terms and not getting all Star Warsy about references to the series, but with that said... the trailer shows baby Christopher meeting Tony who appears to be in the 17-18 year old range. I didn't think there was that big an age gap in the series was there? I thought Tony was only supposed to be about 10 years older than Chris, and that they joked that even though he refers to him as his nephew he was really more of a big brother type? Tony said he was 46 in the final season and that would put Chris around 21 or so in the pilot. I believe Imperioli was only a couple years younger than Gandolfini in real life.

    Just after seeing it.
    Major disappointment, pity.
    Aside ... disregarding movie’s faults.
The theatre light came on 10 minutes before film ended.

Yes, the problems with the timeline were mentioned either in this thread or another one.

I read a review yesterday--sounds like the Dickie character is indeed the key figure in this and the most morally corrupted in the tradition of Tony Soprano. Also sounds like the young Tony is not at all the hardened mafia guy he becomes, which is to be expected. Looking forward to the authentic vibe for late-'60s tristate area colorful characters...that's the last time my family lived in the New York area, and I'm sure David Chase & co. nail it to perfection.

Do not read the Guardian review, there is a major spoiler.

Most reviews have been somewhat favorable.
    IMDb gave it 7.8/10.
    I’d say 6/10.

I like the sound of that cover of Dylan's Gotta Serve Somebody in the trailer. Anyone know who it is?

Is it confirmed that the film takes places in the late '60s with Tony in his late teens?

It's over two periods, one where Tony is a child, and then Tony as a teenager (there's two different actors playing Tony).

    USA:
Robert De Niro introduced the film at a presentation a few days ago. Kudos indeed.

If this was a tv series, it’d be a good opening episode/ pilot and hopefully in more episodes ...Ray Liotta ( his character plays a twin )... who’s terrific in it.

So, it doesn't conflict with the continuity of the series, then?

As posted earlier in the thread, the timeframe and Tony's age technically put it at odds with the actual Sopranos show.

But the poster above said that it shows Tony at two different ages. It still doesn't match up with series?
