“Revolution 9” is the exclamation point to the “White Album”
“Good Night” is the post script.

    This is how rumors propagate.

The phrase "Number 9" came from (IIRC) an educational tape in the EMI library. It only sounds like "turn me on dead man" for the same reason that anything else, when reversed, can accidentally sound like something it isn't.

Of course, if you were joking.......

    Never mind!

    Unmitigated gibberish. Genius? Hardly…
But to be fair, I just don’t like them at all.

This forum is rather fond of Beatles threads based around occasionally bare premises( Did John like wheat or rye bread and can we tell by listening to Norwegian Wood backwards?Paul’s favorite bass strings.. etc) and hey who doesn’t like the Beatles!? That being said Revolution 9 is maybe genius in an avant-garde, musique concrete sort of way but in any other way it’s almost unlistenable. It is no doubt one of the most skipped songs on a classic album ever created . I’ve been on here long enough to know daring to say that a Beatle song might be.. “gasp” below par opens up the door to angry slings and arrows. For those Revolution 9 uber fans I have a challenge : just play the song at a big party or even a small gathering of derelicts and just watch the room clear. I know sometimes genius is too profound for people such as myself( and the derelicts) to grasp but really the word genius attached to this sound collage might be veering a little too close to sheer hyperbole.

But hey what do I know … crank it up!

I don't think a case needs to be made for it, it was a subversive work of art on an album that found its way into 30+ million homes.

The fact that it was done by a band that was singing "I Want To Hold Your Hand" just 5 years previous is what's really shocking to me.

MAYBE there’s a case that can be made, but you certainly haven’t made it? You’re going to call this one genius based on the lyrics? No. I don’t think so.

  22. Nope. Pretty daring but not genius.

There may be more method in the madness than is initially apparent in the sound collage that is Revolution 9, but genius? I don't think so ...

I've said this a hundred times but I don't mind repeating myself...

The clip of them doing 'Some Other Guy ' at The Cavern absolutely kills me.
It was filmed in September 1962.
Within five years these same guys would release ' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'...along with a few other albums and singles which weren't too bad.
    Five years!
