Spinning this morning. These are really nice Brandenburgs: Bach: Brandenburg Concertos. Oregon Bach Festival Chamber Orchestra, Helmuth Rilling. Hanssler
I received this 2-CD set yesterday and listened to Quartet No.1 this morning. Great playing, of course, and very good sound.
First listen to CD 72 from "Claudio Arrau - Complete Philips Recordings" on Decca. Bach - Partitas Nos. 2 & 1
Spinning in the CD player: Dragon Quartet, Dvořák, Schubert – String Quartet Op. 96 'American'; String Quartet D.810 'Death and the Maiden' Channel Classics – CCS 39417
That’s the original issue of the set I found the other week on the Elatus label. I was really impressed by it!
NP: Sibelius Night Ride & Sunrise, Op. 55 Scottish National Orchestra Gibson An outstanding performance. For the life of me, I don't know why Chandos doesn't remaster the Gibson set of symphonies and release it? It seems they've been rather negligent of their back catalog, which, for this listener, contains their best recordings.
Spinning in the CD player: Antonín Dvořák - Chilingirian String Quartet – String Quartets No.12 "American" & 14 Chandos – CHAN 8919
Now playing: Felix Mendelssohn - Works for Cello and Piano - Steven Isserlis, Melvyn Tan - recorded 1994
Now playing: Igor Stravinsky - Works for Violin and Piano - Carolyn Huebl, Mark Wait - recorded 2008, 2010
NP: Shchedrin Carmen-Suite Russian National Orchestra Pletnev Ridiculous, outrageous but so much fun!
Grrrrrr! I bought this one recently as a FLAC download from Presto, but it has a corrupted track. Downloaded the album again, but yes, the same track has a problem. Notified Presto to tell them to stop selling it and to ask if I can get a refund or a credit or something. Shame, because I really liked it...
Spinning in the CD player: Boris Berman, Shostakovich – Sonata #2 Op 61, Preludes & Fugues Op. 87 Ottavo – OTR C38616
