So I guess the best definition of “out of print” would be “I can’t order or buy a new copy of it from a commercial music retail outlet”? Would “off catalogue” still be a thing?

I wonder how physical stock is actually managed and stored these days. Record companies seem to press up the bare minimum necessary to fulfil the projected initial sales for physical media, then are happy to let records fall out of availability once initial demand is met, rather than keep thousands of copies sat in a warehouse ready to ship to all those high street music stores that no longer exist. Hence the awful scam of Amazon “on-demand” CD-Rs.

A copy of Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE (2004) on vinyl was recently offered in the classifieds here, and I was surprised to learn it's commanding fairly steep prices well north of $100 these days. Original CDs galore are still available for peanuts, but on Discogs it looks like this album has never been reissued.

I picked up a nice CD copy (with the outer-cardboard slipcover and booklet) last year from a shop for $3. It's a great time to be a CD collector.

Amazing that "Happiness" still hasn't seen a vinyl reissue. 10th Anniversary came and went. So glad I picked this up at virtually the 11th hour.

Just an update... Pretty sure I could buy new copies of every single CD mentioned in this thread, and about 90% of the vinyl, and STILL pay way less money than what the cheapest copy of Reputation is going for now. $1388 ?!?

I found Christina Aguilera's Bionic Deluxe CD a while ago at a thrift store for 0.5€ it had the nice looking "3D" sleeve so I had to buy it.
If I Google for the Bionic Deluxe CD, Amazon comes up as #1 search result, but only lists used copies? Could this be something?

Are the Amos Lee albums on Blue Note still in print, or were they deleted when he left the label ?.
Also are any Grant Lee Buffalo CDs in print (used copies are plentiful)?

WTF? That's one of our subway trains! Most likely a U1 leaving Schlesisches Tor. Pet Shop Boys used an announcement from that line very effectively on their "Hot Spot" album! :righton:

The Miles Davis boxes with the metal spines (some were from the late 90's, but most were from the 00's) and the Bootleg Series are out of print. I think the It's About That Time Live At the Fillmore is also.

I have It's About that Time -- will be searching for the others -- how many were there?
PS FYE used to be a good place to find Sony product.
I don't think the metal will return -- I thought I read they rusted !
