This is a weird one that is floating under the radar. Any word on when this will be officially announced? Just got my preorder for Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section in on Amazon UK thanks to the links provided here.
I kept asking them on Instagram about an official announcement without any response. They probably got tired of me asking the question on unrelated topics so they sent me a message essentially saying nothing: “We’re unable to disclose any information on future releases until the release dates are locked in. We will share more on our social media channels in the future.” The PR art of saying something while disclosing nothing.
Thanks for trying to get the facts from them. But I see this whole response as “we can’t even get the damn product locked in a timeline at the pressing plants so we can’t announce anything without looking stupid with multiple inevitable delays”. Which I think is fair considering what’s happening to Tone Poet and Acoustic Sounds!
Just found this thread & very excited to learn about the Ornette 2LP especially. Fingers crossed that this series happens, even if it's delayed until fall, or next year...
Had Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm section preordered through Rough Trade UK. Asked them what is up and was told “it was a mistake”. They canceled it.
This series has been such a roller coaster! Really hope it sees the light of day. Verve, Blue Note and Contemporary series? Yes please!
Unfortunately, the Peppers are out of stock on JPC... I'll preorder the Poll Winners in the meantime...
yes DAMM i got that email this morning too ... still saves the wallet for a while ...and wow what a year 2022 is going to be already with now 5 or 6 albums pre ordered put back till then ... which is the way i'm choosing to look at it ... rather than being frustrated
all i can find is the Amazon UK listing for march 18, 2022 look for the following numbers: Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section: B08Z2T6TVP Art Pepper + Eleven: B08Z5TLGBB they seem to have 'real' album art with Craft catalog numbers
I’ve got the Japanese pressing of Pepper Meets from 1982. It sounds great. Just wondering if this new pressing will outperform it? I’m trying so hard NOT to buy new pressings of albums I already have even though they may be slightly superior. I tend to now ask myself how often I’m going to play it. If I was going to play it every day I’d obviously go for the better pressing but I’d say the last time I listened to this album was probably over a year ago.
I never your pressing, but I have a 1974 King and I understand what you mean. Mine sounds amazing and it has a lot to do with the recording. DuNann was really good. Thing is, my experience with 70s and 80s Japanese jazz pressings (Blue Note and Impulse p.e.) is that new audiophile AAA reissues are always better. So I'm guessing they're gonna be able to make that one sound better too. Much better? I can't be sure obviously.
I would love to see some of the lesser known Avant Garde sessions made available again, namely: -Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy -Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons - The Cry -Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons - Firebirds -Sonny Simmons - Burning Spirits I will definitely be picking up the Ornette, as well as Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section. That Art Pepper is the only album I've heard of his but it really hits the spot when the mood calls for it, any other Pepper recommendations?
The Trip (1976), his come-back album. Straight Life & Winter Moon (with strings) (1980) , two and the best of his Galaxy recordings IMO. Roadgame (1981), his last Live album, a year or so before his death.
Very similar to Meets the Rhythm and also enjoyable Art Pepper classics IMO: - SMACK UP - THE WAY IT WAS - GETTIN' TOGETHER
Been looking to get these as the old AP45s, but if this releases in Europe, which it looks like it will, Ill be a happy camper. Anyone found these on Amazon DE or other EU Amazons?
I saw at Dodax Art Pepper meets the rhytmsection. With OJC looks like something new. Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section | Dodax.nl Could this be it? Grtz. Peter
