A great place for comparisons ect. You name it just a great place to discuss our love for the British Sound....
Monitor Audio MA88. No info on the internet. Found these at an antique store in my home town for $40. I did notice the SEAS tweeter and that won me over. Pretty large speakers (they belong on the floor), but served duty on my garage workbench for the rest of the summer. They are inside now being powered by an Outlaw RR2150.
No slot or port. The bottom driver is passive. What you see as the base for the speaker is simply a built in stand covered with a like speaker grill. These suckers are sealed up.
I've owned this pair of ESLs since 1973 (freshly restored). If you look closely at the amps, you'll see period correct GEC KT 66s.
1998 KEF's Reference Model Fours. Hand Made and matched in Maidstone, UK. They have very much grown on me. AND I have thick plaster walls - a proper British room ;-)
Oh STOP! Such a degree of shameless HiFi Porn---you oughta be ashamed of yourself! Me? I even bow at the mere sight of fabric covered space heaters...
kt66: I bet they do!! Could you post a picture?, I'd love to see them! I have a pair of Tannoy Saturn floorstanders. Absolutely LOVE them. The best component I ever bought. I would like to hear vintage Tannoy full range drivers someday also!
I've owned Epos M12.2's and K1's, Harbeth C7ES3's and P3ESR's, Rega RS1's, Naim Ariva's, Intro's and Credo's, KEF Q150's, Graham/Chartwell LS6's, and Wharfedale Diamond 10.2's ... my memory sucks, so I may have forgotten one or two ... Without lapsing into fanboy effusion, let's just say the British know what they're doing when it comes to designing loudspeakers that simply play music in a very satisfying way.
I still have the Mordant-Short MS35Ti's I bought in the mid 80's. After trying many different speakers, these were just the balanced sound I loved. Very neutral, play well across many genres of music. Only now I am considering the Dynaudio Evoke 20's. I won't be able to audition any where I live, but I liked what I've read about. Love the British sound though.
I owned a pair Epos m12.2 sometimes i forgot how great they were....owned the esl3 to...those i really liked and i wish i still had them....
I have a smattering of speakers with KEF drivers and tweeters - Calinda, Tannoy, B&W and Tangent. I wouldn't mind some more but where to put them is the problem.
Right! Bookshelf speakers - I need more smaller speakers! The hunt! She is on! Reminds me of when I passed up some very small KEF speakers, long ago. Someone convinced me that I didn't need yet another pair...... Did KEF ever make dual concentric speakers?
Wayne Piquet refurbished original Quad ESL's. Proac 148 MK2 towers. Proac Tablette 10 Signature. Falcon LS3/5a. Falcon IMF 100. Yup, I'm a Brit speaker guy.
ATC SMC20 mkl. Extraordinary speakers, the midrange and dynamics are up with the best I have heard. Their only downside are that they are a bit inefficient.
They are in storage right now while I renovate my house, but I plan to post pics when I have everything set up again.
