I love this episode but let's think this one through. If turkeys could fly, did Arthur Carlson think that people would be able to scoop up the turkeys without a fight and put them in the trunk so they could bring them back home to decapitate, pluck and disembowel at home? I hope the Pinedale Mall was frequented by a fair amount of farmers rather than suburban housewives...

There's transport helicopters like the Chinook that don't have a tail rotor but I have no idea if they can fly banners or not.

I've started rewatching this show on youtube (lots of full episodes are up) and I see where the seams are very clearly now, where the direction was maybe a little sloppy/rushed, and some of the writing could be awkward here or there, but the cast is the thing. What a great ensemble.

I saw this episode as a teen in the 70s, when it first aired initially. I watched WKRP religiously as a kid.

One of the funniest sit com, single episodes in TV history!!
It is right up there with "Chicken Pot Pie" - David Cross episode of 'Just Shoot Me"!
And "The Germans" episode of "Fawlty Towers".

Well friends, it's about that time of year again.

I saw this at a jack-o-lantern display in Louisville, KY several weeks ago.

I've been listening to Pink Floyd's Animals a lot since the hires came out - I can't do it without thinking, "hey, do I hear dogs barking on that thing?"

I love WKRP; it's my favorite TV show of all time. But I feel like the Thanksgiving episode is all anyone ever talks about. There's so much more to the show.

    Love that episode.

Another episode I remember is when they were doing shots and Johnny Fever's reflexes kept getting faster the more he drank.

When I was a kid I thought this was the funniest episode ever. The story behind it is pretty funny. They intentionally tried to make it as bad and stupid as possible and it backfired.

One of my favorite episode(s) was when Johnny became a host on a disco music TV show. He transformed into “The Ripper”. As a result Johnny has to deal with his split personality and the recognition and fame he experiences as “The Ripper”.

I think I was most impressed with the episode where Venus explained the atom to a gang member.

Looks like the episode is not on TV in the U.S. this year.

I don't think it's streaming anywhere either. The episode is available on iTunes, but it's the butchered version from the old Fox S1 DVD that cuts out the "Dogs" scene.

As mentioned before, The Shout! Factory DVD set has the full episode, music intact minus the Pink Floyd track, which was replaced with a fairly convincing sound alike.

The last syndicated version (as seen on METV) managed to retain Pink Floyd, but omitted Joe Cocker's "Fun Time" and CCR's "It Came Out Of The Sky" (played before and after the turkey drop respectively). Clever, but not essential to the episode. It's also cut down to 22 minutes.

There was an uncut version of "Turkey's Away" released on VHS in the 90's, or the full episode can be found on the 'net I'm sure.

Does anyone else think this episode inspired the "You Better Watch Out" episode of Married...with Children in which a parachuting Santa Claus crashes into the Bundys' backyard?

I just LOVE this show....especially the Turkey episode...but I don't fuss over what isn't there - I enjoy it for what it does deliver.

Some of the funniest lines ever came from the series:

"With GOD as my witness,...I thought turkeys could fly." - The Big Guy
"I got some suits I can't even get parts for." - Venus
"I try to match my clothes. Sometimes, I can't do it." - Herb
