Razorback - classic Aussie horror about a massive wild boar. Lifeforce - probably more sci-fi than horror, but such a wild, bizarre film. Tenebre - probably my favourite horror/slasher film of all time, the visuals and soundtrack are brilliant. Opera - not one of Argento's best but I love it. Lair Of The White Worm - Not a typical horror film, rather off-beat and bizarre. Santa Sangre - Another bizarre horror film, this time from Chilian maestro Alejandro Jodorowsky

The Howling Prince Of Darkness Cujo April Fool's Day These should cover your preference for films that are not gory. Many others have chimed in on a lot of definitive 80's horror films.
Witchboard Sleepaway Camp II Ghoulies II Toxic Avenger Alone in the Dark Night of the Demons Return of the Living Dead
Night of the Comet is a pretty fun "everyone has perished except for a small handful of survivors and oh yeah the zombies too" type movie. You can tell it's an 80s movie by just looking at the hair.
If you like creepy atmospheric... try 'Sole Survivor' - my favourite forgotton 80s horror Some others; Demons Demons 2 Phenomena
Bad Dreams (1988) - when I was in my early teens this movie scared me. I watched it again not too long ago and I thought it was alright, not as scary but still ok, decent twist also.
