FWIW, this Guardian reviewer didn't seem to enjoy it too much. The Beatles: Get Back review – eight hours of TV so aimless it threatens your sanity I've just watched the introductory 10 minutes so far but am very much looking forward to sitting down to enjoy Part One this afternoon.
That section with “All Things Must Pass” was great when John read George’s lyric wrong and they realized it was a much better lyric. And I laughed out loud at this early morning exchange: Paul (to Ringo): “Good Morning” Ringo (after an awkward pause): “I won’t lie, I’m not too good!”
An hour into the proceedings and have to save the rest for tonight. Have to go to work. Too many great moments to mention all of them, but I really enjoyed the yawning montage over Paul singing "I'm So Tired"
This is so, so, so good and I can’t wait to watch it all. It’s a shame it’s been visually mastered with a Snapchat filter.
This is the first review that I've seen. It's (unsurprisingly) less than complimentary given the length of the project. The Beatles: Get Back review – eight hours of TV so aimless it threatens your sanity Summed up by the comment that 'it ends with the famous concert on the roof of Apple’s HQ, which Jackson makes the most of by showing it in split screen, shared with footage of the street below and police arguing with the building’s receptionist. It is 40 minutes of untrammelled joy, but it is an inordinately long and winding road to get there. You wonder how many viewers will last the distance and if any, other than the aforementioned maniacs, will take it more than once.'
Haven’t watched anything yet but noticed the first part is 2h 36 mins so if the other two are similar in length it is going to be more than the 6 hrs , looking forward to viewing tonight.
Surely they should have put out the Preview cut of the 100 mins one (the one that would have likely been in cinemas had Covid not hit) - most casual onlookers will turn off after 30 minutes - and won't want to face 8 hours? I think this is the point of that Guardian review - how many hours of Let It Be album outtakes can a non-Beatles-stan face? I mean I'm delighted that I have 7.5 hours to go - but if I invited my pals over they'd already be bored.
I loved it! But being a lifelong Beatle nut/nerd why wouldn't I? I can see the points of the reviewers though. A casual fan will likely find it a hard slog. But as for me.....
Some bits could have been shorter, some longer (why is it Powelless-less?) and casual fans might find it tough going, but I loved it. Especially the ending.
Not enough complete songs. It could just be the nature of the original filming at Twickenham. Things will improve in the next episodes I'm sure. TC
