^I think this describes how many of us feel… still, live, Elvis totally brings it so people keep going! He is a very intense performer
And I think about him, now and then Every time I try and every time I win And if I ever have a boy, I'll name him Bill or George or Frank or If, anything but Sue!
Mostly agree except I love When I Was Cruel and River In Reverse……….(I’m also an Allan Toussaint fan).
River In Reverse is more or less a tribute album to me, partly because a huge chunk of those Toussaint numbers were already definitively done by Lee Dorsey. They're fine here, but I've got those Dorsey albums and play them more, so the only thing I really go back to is like an EP's worth of favorites specifically composed (or at least newly written lyric-wise) for EC's album.
Is there a general release of a 7 inch single for Magnificent Hurt? I have seen a picture of one online but cannot find release or pre-order links. Or is this a strictly limited promo item? TC
For those who like signed things, I see his official UK site up is promoting a couple signed items as “exclusives.” I used a vpn to access the site and was able to order one of these for delivery to the US. We’ll see if it actually works! Anyway, thought I’d share that story here…
Here's a new track from the album: Paint The Red Rose Blue Now I must say that this is the first time in a very, very long time that I've fallen in love with a new song of his instantly. So beautiful. His choices for the first tracks he releases are a bit puzzling to me: Magnificent Hurt was just like another of his uninspired filler tracks to me, but then he comes up with something gorgeous. I really hated No Flag at the time and only recently I found out that I like the Hey Clockface album a lot. So now I know that I should not dismiss an album he makes when I don't like the first preview track.
The fine label Joyful Noise produce flexi discs with exclusive material as bonuses with almost all of their new album releases, and in the teens had monthly releases for subscribers and a fancy box to keep them in at the end of the year. Contributors included lots of significant artists like Deerhoof, Of Montreal, Lou Barlow, Jad Fair, Tortoise, Sufjan Stevens, Built to Spill, Why?, Son Lux, The Melvins, Marnie Stern, Daniel Johnson, Lee Ranaldo, Wye Oak and Thurston Moore. So for such an annoying and unreliable medium, flexidiscs have been cool for quite a while now.
EC was on UK television last night. Good performance of Pump it Up and 1 from the new album. My daughter who is only vaguely familiar with Pump it Up asked “why is he singing out of time with the beat?” He was indeed and I thought it sounded quite odd.
That one sounds very nice - the melody reminds me at times of "All This Useless Beauty" (I think) I can't help feeling though that this album will be another one like Look Now where I liked it at first, but then end up leaving it on the shelf in favour of listening to the older stuff that I know. I'm finding this quite a bit these days where new albums from legacy artists that I like are having a hard time dislodging the established classics from my rotation, even though I know that they are decent efforts.
I cancelled my preorder as although I liked the new track I heard, do I really need another EC album on vinyl for £30 that I might play half a dozen times max? I liked Look Now but the last abum of his I genuinely loved was When I Was Cruel. I’d preorder that on vinyl in a heartbeat.
