The DVD has been readily available in the UK for a long time but not the blu-ray edition, which I had to import from France. Paperhouse is a wonderful film which I'm glad you were able to discover.

I showed the film to my daughter and it got her so much she cried at the end. Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars, the director's next film was Candyman, and yet the only official US release is a small label double feature DVD which is bare bones and is apparently defective. I would love it if they found Glenne Headly's voice track for the film, I don't see why they needed to overdub her.

By far it has to be "The Big Lebowski". Not my favorite movie, but I've watched it more than any other movie I can think of.
I never seem to tire of it and continue to find it endlessly amusing. I can practically recite the entire dialogue along with it.

I find I notice more with each reviewing or re-reading. I've started to think I was not a very careful viewer of many movies. Or that many touches go over many other people's heads?

    Yep.

Again, same with albums and books.

Not only do I often notice more detail, I sometimes "take" things differently due to changes in my life, attitude, mood, etc.

I couldn't even begin to count how many times I have watched the first 7 Marx Bros. I generally dvr them when they are on TCM or catch them in mid air. Besides the usual suspects...like Godfather(s), many Shawshanks, Liberty Valence, Maltese Falcon, I was delighted to catch Young Frankenstein on TCM last night.

Paperhouse got some critical buzz in America upon release, and I caught it on VHS way back when. Don't remember much about it, other than its unsettling tone and strange ending.

I've seen "Smokey and the Bandit" so many times that I know where the spots are on the DVD where they inadvertently left out Fred barking. At first I blamed it on the Germans, but then I realized the G*d-d*mned Germans had nothing to do with it.

Training Day (2001) my favorite movie, with a great cast, including Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Eva Mendez, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Macy Gray, Scott Glenn, Harris Yulin, Tom Berenger, Cliff Curtis, and Noel Gigliemi.

Top 50 most watched movies of all time

    4th January 2016

Our OnePoll study of 2,000 British adults put the story of good girl Sandy and greaser Danny’s high school romance at number one, thanks to its catchy songs and memorable performances.

The most popular film among men is Back to the Future, followed by Steven Spielberg’s classic swashbuckling tale, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Nerve jangling adventure, Jurassic Park – more cinematic magic from Spielberg – is third in the list, while the original Star Wars movie faired a little better coming seventh.

Grease is solidly first place for women while Dirty Dancing is second. Third place belongs to Richard Curtis’ Christmas romance, Love Actually.

    Interesting list.
Watched 'Avatar' for the second time a couple of days ago and found it hopelessly dull.

Bullitt for me in the theatres. Must of seen it 9-10 times over a course of a month. Now never miss it on TCM.
Next maybe Good, Bad…. Best time watching was a few years ago with my Alzheimer’s mother on Thanksgiving. She had never seen it or of course bother being interested in it yet she sat and didn’t get up for whole 3 hrs on TCM while my wife toiled in kitchen. She went shortly into a facility permanently after that, passing nearly a year later. Who needs football on thanksgiving when Clint and Eli is on.
