Oh, yeah, there is that. Maybe call it bad judgement, but he’s heard Casey Jones too. Now, he doesn’t know what cocaine is… but if you saw him running around the living room about an hour before bedtime, you’d wonder if he might be a little more familiar with it than he lets on.
Yeah but you’re Australian so you have to reverse it. I think what you meant to say that it was released September 1st, 2002. Or was it January 9th, 2002. I’m so confused. I give up.
My Spring '77 entire tour listening project has brought me to 5/26/77 at Baltimore Civic Center. Another show that opens smoothly with a Music Never Stopped, and segues into a Sugaree that gets everything right.
Hey thanks! This YouTube audio is a very helpful preview to that show. *If* the audio quality is acceptable (given the high quality of the playing <--that exists only from this recording) then know that the circulating copy [21933] sounds crispier than hearing this via YouTube. I dig this show. Bill
An alternate song where Pearly was so depressed by August's drinking that she drowned herself. PS - I played a NYE gig on the Redondo Beach pier.
Speaking of Wharf Rats, how about that Curtis Hixon sequence that starts with WRS on 12/18? I haven't clocked it, but neither of the shows are anywhere near 5 hrs right?
With today’s talk of possible Europe 72 anniversary releases - I’ll throw my hat into the ring behind this idea: A Comp containing every different song performed on the tour - selected by consensus (if possible lol) as the superior version performed. About a week ago, we had a brief discussion of this. Please see @pbuzby ’s complete list of those songs above. So songs not on E-72 get to be heard - and in the most updated sound quality - the songs already on E-72 are given alternative superior versions - and any other recorded songs, bits, conversations can be added to the package. Put it on Vinyl ,put it on DVD, put it on CD, put it on cassettes, put it on 8-Track. Just put it out!
Maybe with all the tuning/banter and/or support? I listened to that before Christmas and the sources on the Archives aren’t that long. Though the poster does state “an evening with The Grateful Dead in an unbelievable 5-hour performance.” Regardless, it’s a phenomenal show.
My copies: 1973.12.18 Tampa (Curtis Hixon Convention Hall) Master Reels [#113498] and 1973.12.19 Curtis Hixon Convention Hall Tampa (SBD/AUD [#126124] are 3:08 and 3:49 respectively. Remember your hippy training, and be cool. Bill
Looking on Relisten, there are several versions and excluding the one with duplicates of every song (over 6 hours), the most long version I see is 3 hours 26 minutes. That includes a boatload of tuning and silly Bobby stories and, since it was likely three sets, there's close to a solid hour of between/betwixt set break time. So if one walked into the building 30 minutes before the show started and stayed for the duration, we'd have something along the lines of: 30 minutes of anticipation/listening to Steeler's Wheel over the PA; 70 minute first set; 30 minute set break; 50 minute second set; 30 minute set break; 80 minute third set. That's 4.8 hours, but hardly a "5-hour performance." Who knew that Dave didn't invent hyperbole?
Europe '72 Re-Imagined is going to float in more and different bass because people love that here, mix out Pig instrumentally, mix in Merle, and throw in a couple Zappa guest appearances. And I'm totally buying the t-shirt and poster.
Six hour performance? When did they ever do seven hour shows? I can't listen to an eight hour show in one day.
