This was a really fun and interesting read -- lot of stuff in there I kind of knew subliminally/intuitively, but had never really seen clearly articulated, or even articulated to myself. Thanks for sharing! :righton:

    US Blues Undermining Consensus Reality

From the time they let the first of the faithful into the building, until the last folks who needed to get their space together to walk back out into the cool Florida night left the building, it was a full 5 hours.

Do not miss out! A fine first set, and magick during the second. Charlie pieced together the second set from the SBD and AUD sources to present the uninterrupted flow of musical exploration that is mandatory listening. Especially if you believe the fake news that January '78 wasn't a good tour.

The longest documented show is 6/10/73 in Washington DC at 280 minutes. It's in my top 5 of the dead shows I attended.

I am confident they are doing something for E72. Dave has essentially said so himself and it looks like Jesse Jarnow is signed up for some E72-based Deadcasts. But I agree I have no idea what that could be. Other than a new mix of the box, I'm not interested in re-releases of anything that's already been released.

I saw some shows like 4/8/88 and 3/28/91 that felt like they only lasted 1 hour.

    Per Discogs,

    St. Louis: Oct 2021
    June 1976: Mar 2020
    Giants Stadium: Sep 2019
    PNW: Sep 2018
Get Shown the Light: May (ha) 2017
    July 1978: May 2016

Interesting that they brought the 1976 box out so soon after the Giants box. Otherwise, they've been released in the fall recently, which makes sense for the Christmas market. It probably varies based on what all else they're releasing in a given year (2020 had the Workingman's Dead and American Beauty Anniversary releases).

Given that we just buy everything, does the timing even matter?

I suppose it helps space out Rhino's annual revenue quarter by quarter.

You are correct. At the time of the 76 box release Dave said it was coming out earlier than usual because they had so much other stuff in the pipeline that year

  16. Another Dead Music Release possibility I’d like to see:

Using The Phil Zone model again.

I like the fact that an actual member of the band was a curator for a collection. Having their input and perspective is invaluable.

    Proposals:

“Return To The Phil Zone”. (From Phil)

“Let’s Get Really Weir”. (From Bob)

“Sticks, Brushes and Skins From Billy and Mickey”. (From Bill and Mickey)

“”Skeleton Keys”. (Songs featuring all the keyboardists, selected by the band).

Each release would come with an ample guide as to what prompted the selections on a release - what makes them musically work - and their input into the performance and what was planned and what parts are a product of the magical musical alchemy.

    I’d love this!

Fun ideas, but I personally am only interested in purchasing full shows. I don’t always listen to full shows, but I want to be my own curator.

Didn’t they win a Super Bowl with a great defense and the corpse of Peyton Manning a few years back? Too bad Brady didn’t see Gronk open on the 2-point try. Still Gronk’s greatest game ever.

It was good, but I got the sense Phil was the only member who could bear to listen to the old stuff at all, and some of his opinions were different than most fans.

Bill said in his book that there are a few old GD recordings he listens to for pleasure, the Europe '72 and spring '90 boxes. Bob has said he thinks the Dead's best time was the last year with Brent.
