"Mr. Webster" was swindled, we no longer wanted to spend our life with "I'll Spend My Life with You," and "No Time" ran out of time. We're going to remove 2 more songs today. Vote your next weakest links.

Discussion question: Where do you rate/rank Headquarters in The Monkees catalog (as much as you have)?

I've flown away and taken all your money.........................

I'll Spend My Life with You (Round 2)
    No Time (Round 2)
    Mr. Webster (Round 2)
I Can't Get Her Off My Mind (Round 1)
    Zilch (Round 1)
    Band 6 (Round 1)

I Pisces.., [the super deluxe] TBB&TM, Head and Good Times have over all better songs but Headquarters is still top 5.

Headquarters is my second favourite Monkees album, just one step below Pisces.

For Pete's Sake needs to go -- in what's left, it's the least of the songs.

After that, it's like pulling teeth, but went with Greens and hated myself for doing that (but, admittedly, the lyrics are a bit naff...)

(stop voting "Forget That Girl" -- it's an unsung classic off the album!)

Headquarters is my favorite in the catalog (closely followed by Pisces...) -- and I have it all.

These are two songs I adore. I think from this round on, every song is of equal quality.

I rank Headquarters pretty high. Been using that pic as my avatar for a good chunk of the past 15 years, so that must mean something. I definitely prefer Pisces and Head, and possibly even Instant Replay, but it's in the top four for sure. The catalog's mostly fantastic, so it's hard to say what's better than what.

Shades of Gray/Blues & Greens voted off.

I have all the albums and I think Headquarters ranks near the top. Nesmith wrote some great tunes here.

“Forget that Girl” (Which I am still surprised made it this far) and... Ah, crap. I don’t want to vote any of the others off.

OK, “Forget that Girl” and “For Pete’s Sake.”

“Pete” is a groovy little tune, but kind of a slight, simple song compared to the rest. So, it goes.

DQ: As I said in Round 1 Headquarters is upper echelon Monkees for me, behind only HEAD and Pisces (Oh, and Good Times! is right up there too if we’re counting later stuff).

But those are all a cut above the rest of the catalogue, in that I feel none of those albums have a bad song on them.

    "Forget That Girl"

DQ?: "Headquaters" is my favorite Monkees album. I think they released two masterpieces & the other was "Pieces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd."

Ugh. Looks like “Early Morning Blues and Greens” is gonna go next, so I may as well talk about it now.

A really underrated song, and I can’t think of another like it in the group’s catalogue.

Not a big Davy fan, so their are few of “his” songs I love but this is one of them.

Cool, moody lyrics so different than most Davy songs. Mildly introspective. An excellent, understated vocal to match. One of Davy’s best, IMO.

And, finally, Peter’s eerie organ playing ices that cake. Top notch. Sorry to see it likely get voted off here.

Unfortunately, I've got to go with:
    "Forget That Girl" &
    "Early Morning Blues And Greens"
Despite the fact I love those songs. To me, Headquarters has no bad tracks aside from maybe "Band 6". And "Zilch" is genius level absurdist humor, for all the naysayers.
And Headquarters is my #1 Monkees' album.
I'll concede that Pisces, Aquarius, etc is probably their masterpiece but that doesn't stop or even diminish my love of Headquarters. They had everything riding on this album and really knocked it out of the ballpark. Seminal 60s album.

Early Morning Blues and Greens is now one of my all time Monkees favorites. I don't remember it making much of an impression on me back in the 80s. It's a great album track. It won't make the next round.

Headquarters was my favourite Monkees album until Pisces was released. Tangled up in that was the fact that I was already a big fan and was aware that this was the first Monkees album proper. I was 100% behind the guys, like any young fan would be.

When Pisces was released it blew Headquarters out of the water in my personal chart and it’s never returned to the top. From 69 onwards it pretty much remained either 5th or 6th. I rate all my personal top 6 very highly and couldn’t imagine being without them.

In my opinion, Headquarters could have been considerably improved by adding The Girl I Knew Somewhere, personally the best song from the Headquarters sessions.

Enjoying this thread. I was thinking of doing a poll for Michael’s greatest album, The Prison....

...but there are NO weakest links there! :tiphat:

PS: I went for Alternate Title and Forget That Girl.
