' Pretzel Logic' remains my favourite Steely Dan album but my favourite song of theirs is on another album. And that album is 'Countdown To Ecstasy' and the song is ' Show Biz Kids' Love this song, it's so Steely Dan. And, for the coup de grace that Rick Derringer guitar solo is warped and wicked.
Its a toss up, always has been, because I love their songs for different reasons: Kid Charlemagne Haitian Divorce Doctor Wu Rikkie Don't Lose that Number Any Major Dude Will Tell You I don't know "Aja" as well as I should. You know why? Because I habitually pass over artists later albums figuring they will disappoint me.
Your Gold Teeth their best groove, cryptic lyrics well out there for them and mention of Cathy Berberian and Count Basie's monkey woman
Whoa, good band to try and name a favourite. Gonna start with “Glamour Profession” from Gaucho but also really like “Cousin Dupree” from Two Against Nature.
Oh man...great question Maybe Kid Charlemagne. Don't Take is up there too. holy crap do I love Royal Scam so that much? Definitely the title track is a monster too!!!
"Kid Charlemagne". But really practically anything off the first six albums and quite a few after too.
Lately I have been playing Caves Of Altamira every day. I have been going thru the chords and realized it is another Fagen masterpiece in moving inner voices and somehow making it work in a pop setting. The horns are fantastic. So this week it is Caves Of Altamira.
Probably 'Haitian Divorce'. Tough to decide though. Royal Scam is my favorite Steely Dan album, really love to play it all the way through. I feel the same way about Pretzel Logic, love it from start to finish. All Steely Dan songs are at least good. Favorite hits would be 'Kid Charlemagne' and 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number'
If it wasn't their highest rated album over at progarchives.com, I probably still would not have heard it. But then, I recognized most of the songs anyway since they've had so much air play. This is called "later album prejudice" (maybe this could turn into a thread - bands who's later albums surprised you.). It is a great album...
