I watched this with my family (including my octogenarian grandmother) over Christmas. It's really great. I've always loved murder mysteries, and Steve Martin is great. It also has Tina Fey (who I adore from Mean Girls) and Nathan Lane (a living legend) in it. I had never heard of Martin Short before, but he was great, too. He got into his character really well. Selena Gomez was also great, too, which surprised me, since I only knew her as Justin Bieber's ex, and when he was big like a decade ago, I, like most other teenage boys, HATED him and everyone associated with him. But she's really good at acting. Great story. I'd highly recommend it.
Saw it and didn’t like it. Why? Boring, unfunny, Martin Short was a little too much at times, Selena Gomez wasn’t good as the female lead, the whodunnit was easy to guess…I can forgive some poor acting but I can’t forgive a comedy for being boring and unfunny.
I didn't think it was funny but I did think it was a good murder mystery...I would have never guess the whodunnit.
I thought the final couple of episodes really tossed us a curve ball. That was a very unexpected, interesting choice for the story, and I thought it worked very well. And it totally set up a second season... which has already been ordered by Hulu.
I voted neutral. I watched mostly because I like Steve Martin and Martin Short and was curious about Selena Gomez. Selena actually worked out better than I expected. The plot and story line was OK. It didn't quite grab me. Kind of meh. I will be watching season 2.
I did not vote. I watched a couple of episodes during a free trial on the computer. If a cable network picks up the reruns, I would watch the rest. I understand the ending is good.
Surprised you never heard of Short. But if you liked him , I suggest you check out his work on the SCTV show.
I tried to like it. I watched the first three episodes. I loved Martin Short on SCTV but these days I find him less and less funny.
I’m kind of curious what kind of Venn diagram you’d get for people who know Steve Martin, people who know Nathan Lane, and people who know Martin Short. It ought to be really close to three overlapping circles. . .
Only Murders In The Building- New Steve Martin/ Martin Short series Lot's of existing discussion in the thread linked above, although it can certainly coexist with this poll.
Especially since Steve and Martin have appeared in three movies together (Father of the Bride, Father of the Bride II, Three Amigos), as well as toured for years together.
I was a little disappointed at first that it wasn't particularly funny, but once I got over that, I still found it enjoyable and interesting.
I'm relatively young (born in the 90s), I know Steve Martin from Cheaper by the Dozen, and I know Nathan Lane from Modern Family and the Lion King.
The next one I want to watch is the one with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. I don't know if Steve Martin or Martin Short are in it. I think it's called Cage something. (But I don't think Nicholas Cage was involved [and his real name isn't Cage])
