Try as I might, I cannot.

I remember my first album. That was 'Magical Mystery Tour'. That memory is clear as a bell.

But my first single? Lost in the fog of time unfortunately.

However...among the first was certainly ' Instant Karma' with a picture sleeve. Thought it was very cool. Played it plenty, the b-side not so much.

It’s a tricky one. I was given a few 50s and 60s singles by a neighbour when I got my first record player. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t appreciate them at all. I remember Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks was in there. Cliff Richards’ Travellin’ Light was another. I’d probably love them all now!

However, this would be 1972/73. I’d be 9 going on 10 and just wanted the modern chart singles that I heard on the radio.

So, the first single I ever chose for myself was Donny Osmond’s Puppy Love. Not something you’d shout from the rooftops, but I loved that song and the B-side (Let My People Go!).

Gosh no, but I remember a handful that either myself or most likely my older brother bought when we were 7-11 years old. Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue, Glen Campbell - Gentle On My Mind, Galveston, By The Time I Get to Px, W. Lineman

I remember the first two, and I am 95% certain I purchased them on the same day: "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John, and "Fame" by David Bowie, both purchased at Smith's Records in the Lake Forest Plaza Shopping Center.

One thing I do recall very well is going into a Zellers store in '71 where they had a huge bin of 45s. Ten for a dollar. Bought a buncha Motown ones.

    I’d rather have Puppy Love.:D

I remember hearing I’m Alive on the radio and thinking what a dreary by-the-numbers ELO song it was. As the lead single from the exciting music fantasy Xanadu (no one had seen it yet), I thought it was very disappointing.

Is this the greatest looking record label or what?
And the 'sliced' b-side is inspired.

I sure do. I bought 3 of them at the same time:
"All Night Long" by Lionel Ritchie
    "That's All" - Genesis
"Say Say Say" - Jackson / McCartney

The first single I owned was The Empire Strikes Back Medley (b/w The Force Theme) by Meco.

The first single I bought with my own money was ELO's Rock 'N Roll Is King (b/w After All), when I was ten years old.

I'd love to be able to tell you that it was Jeepster by T Rex, but that was the 2nd one I bought.

The first was Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West by Benny Hill

Maybe not the very first one, but "Band on the Run" comes to mind.

Not sure the exact title but I do remember buying Beatles 45's after seeing them on the Ed Sullivan in 1964 with my $0.50 a week allowance as a kid.
