The one about The Grateful Dead on amazon prime. I really liked it, but still can't get into their music
Another excellent documentary I watched on BBC TV recently was, "The Last Mountain" The story of the death of climber Tom Ballard on Nanga Parbat in 2019. Ballard was the son of legendary mountaineer Alison Hargreaves, who lost her own life on K2 in 1995. A large part of the documentary is Tom's sister visiting Nanny Parbat to pay tribute to her brother. A moving, fascinating film drawing on 25 years of archive film of this extraordinary family of climbers. Highly recommended. BBC Two - The Last Mountain
The Mingus doc on Tubi. Before that I watched the Howlin Wolf doc on Amazon, the WBCN doc on PBS and the Fire Music doc at a local art house theater.
Independent Lens: Missing in Brook County: Missing in Brooks County | Migrants Disappear in Brook County, Texas A heart-rending look at how immigrants along the southern Texas border are literally channeled into unforgiving terrain (high temperatures, no water) to "discourage" them from making the trip. The policy didn't work, and immigrants are still attempting to cross over in the U.S. and are dying of heart stroke and being buried in unmarked graves. Standouts in this tale? Eddie Canales, of the South Texas Center for Human Rights, who not only works with the families in an effort to identify the remains (e.g., distinctive clothing, shoes, etc.), but he puts out gallon jugs of water along the route (and thanks to seven ranchers who have allowed him to do such). The other standout in Kate Stadley, a forensic anthropologist who works out of Texas State University (San Marcos). She and her team of graduate students and assistants exhume the remains from unmarked graves and are working to identify the persons (from physical features as well as DNA analysis).
Also watched.... Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience (on YouTube) Enjoyable! "The Terry Kath Experience" is a documentary about a daughter discovering the legacy of her father: the late Terry Kath. Kath was one of the founding members of the band Chicago whose powerful guitar playing and husky, melodic voice has been praised by such icons as Jimi Hendrix, Joe Walsh and Eric Clapton. Before discovering his full potential as a guitarist and subsequent guitar icon, Kath's life ended tragically at age 32. Terry's daughter Michelle was only two years old when he passed, only coming to know him through his music and stories from her mother. After discovering a box of memorabilia, Michelle sets out on a journey to get to know her father and to search for his iconic lost guitar. In this documentary, Michelle interviews her dad's family, bandmates and good friends, as well as prominent musicians, to piece together the life of her father, one of the great unsung rock legends on the 1970s.
I highly recommend this documentary, this guy's art is fantastic and visionary, and his life story is equally amazing...
Excellent documentary and is a must watch to find out how Contemporary Christian Music became influential to our culture.
