Awwww man! I watched Trust on Bravo back when they showed independent/art house movies. I LOVED this one as a teenager and Adrienne Shelley was just wonderful. There's a documentary about her on HBOMax.
How about River's Edge with Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Crispin Glover, Ione Skye. I have this on DVD but haven't watched it in many years; it is not uplifting, to say the least. Mid-late 80s Keanu is always nice to look at though.
There's a reason for that... Better to see Richard Benjamin in Goodby Columbus. At least it introduces Ali McGraw! At least she isn't a piece of liver...
Saw one on TCM yesterday about 1950s dishonest, manipulative political pollsters: The Fearmakers (1958) with Dana Andrews and a nerdy Mel Torme! Lots of film noir elements and photographic techniques.
Have to admit.. I quoted this one the other day ... not sure the context "Play with it, son. Don't talk to it!" Something in a trailer I think.
G.I. Jane got mentioned at the Oscars this year.. maybe this is why some films don't get brought up again!
Speaking of Dustin Hoffman (again) - the Lenny Bruce biopic Lenny (1974) is rarely talked about now, despite being one of the better biopics. Hoffman's high energy performance is impressive, but he looks (and is) nothing like Lenny Bruce. Great b&w photography and a rare non-musical turn for Bob Fosse.
my favorite movie of the '80s and a Top 10 of all time flick... saw it opening week and still own the VHS tape! The only role Keanu Reeves ever played where I find him believable... Hopper and Glover are insane in this... don't think Glover ever did a better movie or performance... I only like Hopper's Apocalypse Now performance better...
TCM recently ran Bad Company, a 1972 Western directed by Robert Benton and starring Barry Brown and Jeff Bridges. I saw it once before when it first came out, on a double bill with Jeremiah Johnson. Seeing it now I thought it was even better than I remembered. It's an understated film that is seriously under-rated.
