Fantastic-sounding album, one of my earliest CD purchases. Hung Up On Your Love should have been a single. I wish Phil had talked more about his 80s drum sound in the book. Maybe trade secrets he wanted to keep secret. EG.
Also there's this great b-side 'Wanna Make Love To You' which should've been on the album, IMO. Kind of an earworm to me. Luckily the song can be found on Clapton's Crossroads CD box set.
Yes that made my Clapton anthology, though weirdly I didn't put After Midnight with JJ Cale on that (which is another of the Crossroads exclusives). Meanwhile, my 6CD But Seriously deluxe is almost complete EG.
As I tend to do if multiple masters are available, I put them all on these sets together. So you have the 1989 CD and the 2016 CD, and then the rest is the more interesting stuff. Disc Three ...Singles Plus 01 in the air tonight ['88 remix] 02 in the air tonight [ben liebrand remix] 03 a groovy kind of love 04 two hearts 05 another day in paradise [edit] 06 something happened on the way to heaven [one world mix] 07 hang in long enough [pettibone 12"] 08 hang in long enough [pettibone dub] 09 hang in long enough [pop club mix] 10 hang in long enough [dub 1] I also made a No Jacket deluxe, and I suppose the Air Tonight remixes could have fitted on there, but 88 is closer to 89 so... Then it's the non-album Buster singles, an edit of Paradise, and some more mixes from Remixed Sides. Disc Four Serious Hits...Live! part one 01 something happened on the way to heaven 02 against all odds 03 who said i would 04 one more night 05 don't lose my number 06 do you remember 07 another day in paradise 08 separate lives Disc Five Serious Hits...Live! part two 01 in the air tonight 02 you can't hurry love 03 two hearts 04 sussudio 05 a groovy kind of love 06 easy lover 07 take me home bonus tracks 08 do you remember [live single edit] 09 doesn't anybody stay together anymore? 10 inside out CDs 4 & 5 are obviously the Serious Hits live album, except I've split it into two and added two B-side only extra live tracks from the Do You Remember live Maxi-CD. This meant I had to manually create fade-ins and/or fade-outs for Separate Lives, In The Air, Doesn't Anybody and Inside Out. Disc Six Serious B-Sides & Demos 01 big noise 02 you've been in love (that little bit too long) 03 that's how i feel 04 around the world in 80 presets 05 burn down the mission 06 rad dudeski 07 another day in paradise 08 that's the way it is 09 hang in long enough 10 do you remember 11 broadway chorus 12 i wish it would rain down Originally, I had the B-sides on the Singles..Plus disc, but that left only about 6 tracks on this one, so I switched them over to this CD. There's the song he did for Two Rooms in amongst these tracks. Artwork-wise, I toyed with something a bit different based on the Serious Tour programme cover, but it just felt too "dark" (literally and mood-wise), so I opted for a close-up but not any of the ones used for the 1989 or 2016 covers. EG.
Thanks I covered No Jacket... on my blog, and at the moment I've made a rule that I won't feature multiple albums by the same act (at least not for now), so But Seriously won't be turning up there any time soon. EG.
The other day while skipping around in my iTunes Library on my iPad Pro I stubbled upon this fun duet with Phil and ABBA's Frida, that I almost forgot about, called "Here We'll Stay". Such a catchy little tune that was immediately killed when ATLANTIC decided to release the song as a single, but omitting Phil's vocals ..., what dimwits!
The chapter in Phil's book about the making of the Frida album is hilarious. So much political/label/relationship nonsense involved. I suspect the removal of his vocals was something to do with all of that. EG.
It just needs a copy of Seriously Live in Berlin upgraded to BluRay/Atmos/Surround. I thought that was an excellent Greatest Hits live video. Hand In Hand Hang In Long Enough Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) Don't Lose My Number Inside Out Do You Remember? Who Said I Would? Another Day In Paradise Separate Lives Saturday Night And Sunday Morning The West Side That's Just The Way It Is Something Happened On The Way To Heaven Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore One More Night Colours In The Air Tonight You Can't Hurry Love Two Hearts Sussudio A Groovy Kind Of Love Easy Lover Always Take Me Home
I might as well get THE BEATLES into this thread ... How about thirty seconds of Phil, Frida and PAUL?
Phil promoting Buster in '88. The Spencer Davis Group hit version was on the soundtrack album. I think Phil must have got it in his head to do a diffrent song on every chat show at the time.
Keep On Running was famously left off the CD version (here in the UK anyway) due to legal issues. EG.
His daughter Lily does bear a resemblance to Audrey Hepburn. Had a golden touch to write so many hits. I wish him well, sorry to hear of his health problems and personal life issues.
I don't know the first one, will go find it. His cover of You Can't Hurry Love was better than the Supremes' original to me, much more life to it.
