Is there any particular reason the 80’s Aussie CD reissues are considered the peak sound? Like TNT, Highway To Hell and Back In Black they recommend an Aussie Albert copy over the other Atlantic ones.
I guess I’m just curious why the Alberts are so highly regarded. Back in Black is nearly priceless, TNT not much cheaper, and Highway to Hell expensive. These discs are coveted, I’ve heard they have the best sound of the CDs, but why???
Yeah that is interesting considering the last album to date the band recorded in Australia was Powerage.
Perhaps the masters got shipped out to Aussie specifically because of the origins of AC/DC? I dunno lol
Beware of counterfeits. I noticed the Made in Japan original Albert CDs on eBay for $17 each. I didn't want to take a chance they were not legit. Anyone know how to spot the counterfeits?
I bought mine directly from an Aussie That’ll do it. The pricing and location. If it’s cheap from Russia, a fake. If it’s expensive from any first world country, probably real.
I own all the original Albert Cds, But the ones made by Disctronics in Australia. It was recommended that the made in Japan were slightly better.
The 80’s Atlantic Powerage and Highway To Hell CDs sound really good to me, and as far as I know the track listing and mixes are the same as the Australian versions. Are the Albert CDs for these superior? The rest of the Bon Scott era albums are sought out for having the original track listings for sure, and probably better masterings. I’m thinking of just collecting the international CDs and getting the backtracks box set to acquire all the stray tracks as it would be less expensive. How is the mastering on that box set?
That’s a good point. From what I’ve heard, the Albert’s for Back in Black and Highway to Hell are in fact better than the Atlantic’s, even if only by a small margin. As for the box set, which one do you mean?
The Aus and international releases are a dog's breakfast unfortunately. I believe there is good info on this thread about it all. Different masters, different mixes, early fades, extended bits, before we even get to the track list differences. AC/DC - The Original Australian Albums
Wish someone had all the different pressings to do a blind test thread they always break through the nonsense.
More like: If it has been counterfeited, then if it's from Russia or China it's certainly fake. If it's from anywhere else, there's a good chance it's fake--be sure to check the ID ring at the center of the CD and compare to known legit issues. Those fakes get bought up wholesale and resold in other countries. I see it all the time.
I used to own the Japan for Australia T.N.T. Albert CD. It sounded phenomenal. Like a complete idiot I traded it in for the remastered CD some time in the early 90s Before I joined this forum. I reaquired the Disctronics Albert original Not as good as the Japan Albert from what I can remember
Also owning both the Disctronics Albert CDs and the original Atlantic Japan CD masterings of Highway to Hell and Back in Black, I prefer the Atlantics. 18p2 Highway to Hell 20p2 Back in Black Have not heard the Japan Alberts
And yes, the Matrix code is key. I just bought a copy online of the misprinted Japan for Aus Highway To Hell
When he was in the process of getting rid of his CDs, a friend of mine gave me Albert CD pressings of High Voltage and Dirty Deeds (Made in Japan versions). To be honest, I haven't even had the chance to listen to them. Are these among the desirable versions?
I will definitely leave them. I have the 2003 remaster, the Japanese 85 pressing, and now the 1987 Albert misprint I just bought from an Aussie. I’ve got a few versions to give my thoughts on if you’re curious
