It appeared on Spotify at midnight in Australia, when the new releases usually hit, credited to Pink Floyd. The Ukrainian band Boombox previously performed with David Gilmour in 2015 so there's a history there.
Can't wait for all the "not actually Pink Floyd" comments in this thread. Sounds like they weren't planning to put it out just yet but the automation got ahead of things.
It's still visible in Australia. New releases always appear at midnight Thursday so I always go online to check what's out. Quite often I see things that don't get officially announced until other timezones have caught up. Info from Youtube vid: Provided to YouTube by Pink Floyd Hey Hey Rise Up (feat. Ah. Well then it'll be out in a little over half a day for a lot of the rest of us then. Thank you, time traveler person!
there is no Pink Floyd anymore i thought? how is there a new song with the name of Pink Floyd? seems fishy...
Pink Floyd will release the group’s first new music for 28 years, in support of Ukraine I don't know why this article has so many pics of Roger Waters. He is not involved. But Gilmour & Mason are, and it is credited as Pink Floyd. EDIT: Found this image:
Tonight at midnight, Pink Floyd will release a new song, 'Hey Hey Rise Up', which sees David Gilmour and Nick Mason joined by Guy Pratt & Nitin Sawhney, with an extraordinary vocal by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox. Gilmour, who has a Ukrainian daughter-in-law & grandchildren: "We, like so many, have been feeling the fury and the frustration of this vile act of an independent, peaceful democratic country being invaded and having its people murdered by one of the world's major powers". Hey, Hey, Rise Up! (feat. Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Boombox)
One of our Australian friends here on the forum have noticed it "early": Am I hallucinating or did Pink Floyd just release a new single?
Because if they're raising money for a good cause, more eyes will be on a Pink Floyd single than a David Gilmour single. All Dave has to do is have Nick over for an afternoon.
Given some of Roger's asinine comments on the subject of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, I think it's for the best that he's not involved. . .
The Guardian in the UK has an article on this PF music up now ‘This is a crazy, unjust attack’: Pink Floyd re-form to support Ukraine
I'm sure Roger's comments on this will be priceless, but ya never know what will come out of his mouth.
He always had a big ego, of course, but I used to think that he had a little more moral clarity than this. This stuff has really left a bad taste in my mouth recently, whereas Gilmour remains a class act. I'm not in a rush to revisit Animals these days--turns out, Waters sides with the dogs.
When Rick Wright died, that marked the end of Pink Floyd-IMO. His keyboards were essential to their music. Still love Gilmour’s Guitar, so looking forward to hearing this New Song.
My heart is broken for Ukraine, but also for watching Roger descent into becoming one of those "but you don't get it, man" guys. David, on the other hand, fills my heart by using the great weapon of massive power that he has in his hand (Pink Floyd) and use it in the name of good. I'm very curious for the new single, although the cynical me expects more of a "Yes I Have Ghosts In Ukraine". All I really ask for is a guitar solo.
