Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Reissue WOW. Wilco's legendary 4th studio album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, was originally released on April 23, 2002. It delivers ten songs that have since become favorites among fans and critics alike. It scored a perfect 10 on Pitchfork, which hailed the album as “complex and dangerously catchy, lyrically sophisticated and provocative, noisy and somehow serene … simply a masterpiece.” And as the New York Times put it, Jeff Tweedy’s songs "unfold in richly enigmatic arrangements.” This 11-LP / 1-CD Super Deluxe Edition of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot features the original ten songs remastered; plus 6 LPs of session outtakes, alternates, demos, drafts and instrumentals; a 1 CD WXRT radio interview and live performances from September 18, 2001; and a 3-LP live show from July 23, 2002 at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO. The vinyl is mastered by Bob Ludwig and cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering on SILVER vinyl. The package (designed by Lawrence Azerrad) includes an extensive booklet that includes a new essay by music journalist Bob Mehr featuring recent interviews with Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt and Glenn Kotche; a conversation with Jeff Tweedy, Glenn Kotche, Jim O’Rourke and producer Cheryl Pawelski; plus previously unseen live and studio photos. Anyone that preorders the album will receive a SendOwl email with a link to download the album track 'Reservations'. Full album link will be emailed on release day. Please allow up to 24 hours for the email to deliver. **Image is a mock-up, artwork subject to change. Bloody hell !! Mind, surely they could have included a live concert from their current NY/Chicago gigs
After seeing the thread title, I was a little worried that this was vinyl only! But after checking the link, there is a CD option too (and probably download/streaming).
FYI the digital download version only includes one of the four bonus discs, so if you want something physical for the entire set, CD is probably the way to go.
Take my money! Although all the Super Deluxe sets surprisingly seem to be available on streaming services so I suspect this will be as well.
The worst part about this is having to wait until September*. *at least we get the DL. I'm sure the vinyl will be pushed.
Silver lining: the fact that they’re pre-selling this now probably means that they’ve probably been planning this for awhile now. Which means that the vinyl set has (hopefully) started being pressed sometime ago.
Since it doesn't mention it being limited, I assume the Super Deluxe will be available at other retailers? $95 difference for 4 extra albums for the Super Deluxe to the Deluxe is steep. But I gotta have em!
wait, it seems like the Sound Opinions show is on CD for the 11LP set and its on vinyl for the 7 (or at least the songs)?
The false modesty in the email was cute. "We're not a band that typically looks back." But we haven't missed an album anniversary so far. Also, here's a giant 11LP box set.
Did they really have to use a photo without Jay in it? Wilco Announce Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Deluxe Box Set Reissues With Unreleased Tracks
Here’s how I’m looking at it: the Wilco vinyl is nearly $15 cheaper than the Wildflowers super deluxe vinyl, and it has two more LPs and a bonus CD added. Likewise, the super deluxe CD set is nearly $40 cheaper than the Wildflowers super deluxe CD set, and it has three additional CDs added to it. So overall this is a pretty good deal, especially for an album of this legendary status.
I think they’re self-aware enough to know that this is an album they couldn’t skip on or skimp out on in terms of content, and it seems like it based on the track list. But I also could see them bowing out of the reissue game after this, kind of like how Pearl Jam did after the Vs./Vitalogy reissues. Especially when there’s probably not nearly as much of a demand for, say, a super deluxe Sky Blue Sky set.
Yeah, very odd to leave him out. His contribution to the album was huge. I saw that 4-man lineup play, with Jeff as the lead guitar player, and it was really good.
Absolutely he was an integral part of this album. And I love the live version of "Kamera" from the July 4, 2001 show with keyboards even more prominent than usual. It seems the Blu-ray for the Jay Bennett documentary is being released today too: https://www.amazon.com/Where-Are-Yo...20-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Are you serious? The late Jay Bennett, co-wrote the music for most of the album, and was heavily involved in the arrangements. At least Jeff Tweedy recognised this in the YHF 20th anniversary shows.
FYI the Nonesuch store is selling the black vinyl editions for less than the Wilco store, and with cheaper shipping: https://store.nonesuch.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=wilco&order=relevance&dir=desc Wilco's Bandcamp is also selling at the same prices as the Nonesuch store, with slightly higher shipping, but you can choose FLAC instead of being forced to stick with MP3 for the accompanying digital download: Wilco I am just going to get the remaster of the original album on vinyl, probably will wait for Amazon to list it in case I need to do an exchange for pressing issues. I was more than happy to pre-order the digital release, but for some reason they're not offering the Super Deluxe as a full digital release, only the Deluxe, and I do not want to spend $100 for 8 CDs or $220+ for 11 LPs, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the digital.
