I dearly love Keel and I like Ron Keel's country-rock projects but I've never checked out Steeler, for whatever reason.
I like this album more than many fans. All the songs are reasonable or better. Forlornly, I'm waiting (Like Godot's mates) for a new KISS album but, in the highly likely event we'll never have one, this was a nice parting shot.
I'm not familiar with Surfin' MOD, other than the title. Some or most of their lyrics were definitely immature and callous. Unfortunately, Aren't You Hungry has the best riff they've ever written, in my opinion.
Just like the recently discussed Sabbath Live At Hammersmith which undoubtedly usurps Live Evil the new Rush 2CD live gig included with the 40th anniversary edition of Moving Pictures has now become my go to live disc for Rush...simply spectacular in every way.
Yeah, I LOVED their AC/DC inspired stuff but think that album you mention above (Bright Gloom from 2018 which is their latest release and the 5th album of their career) is a bad direction for them and probably the worst thing they've done. I've talked about them a couple times in this thread already including here where I half-arsed reviewed their 1st three albums with a bunch of links for some songs: The "Official" All Purpose Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Thread Then here for album #4: The "Official" All Purpose Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Thread I hope they haven't broken up (been 4 years since Bright Gloom) but I'm afraid that album might have drove nails in their coffin and they may be done now (?).
Query re 'Time Machine' from Dehumanizer; possibly towards Wng Cmdr Curve. Been meaning to ask this for a while now: I think it was Alice Cooper's show on Planet Rock when this track came up and it sounded like a totally different mix to that of my original recording. Has this been redone in some way, at some point or could it simply have been a form of re-equalised, radio transmission?
There was an initial version on the Wayne’s World soundtrack, produced by the band themselves iirc ??? Re-recorded for ‘Dehumanizer’. I think I prefer the WW version (appears as a bonus track on the original Japan cd) and no doubt on the expanded deluxe version.
The Wayne's World version is also on the original US CD. And much like Mob Rules, both the soundtrack version and the album version of Time Machine are totally different recordings...not just different mixes.
Agreed, I wonder where they are now? The last album was a change in direction like they really don't know what sound they want to play. It's not a bad album (I don't own it) but it was a pretty drastic change from the previous releases.
I realise I'm 8 years late to the party but I just got this overlooked gem. Highly recommended to all Saxon fans. How I missed this I'll never know but better late than never!
Make sure you pickup his 2020 album (School of Hard Knocks) to go with that. One of my fave albums from 2020. I talked about that one here, in case you missed it: The "Official" All Purpose Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Thread
What the heck happens at 3:15? The solo is winding down then it abruptly cuts to singing. It's a bad edit that sounds like I did it.
I didn't notice it here but I've noticed it before on the radio. I'll have to replay it. There are quite a few songs by different metal artists where I've thought, wow that was abrupt.
previously, I never could relate to Sabina Classen's thrash metal vocals, but after hearing recent Arch Enemy songs, it all makes sense... 1989
